BTW, I did infact just test, the car does cut fuel when coasting in gear. Turned the key while coasting and felt zero difference.
This is not the kind of load that could cause detonation though.

Wow!! I've never see that type of MPG even when i had my 04 G35 6MT. The most I had see on that one was 26.36 and that was driving from AL to SC 65MPH. So far on my 07 from MD to GA 23.xx going 70-75MPH. 98% of my driving is city short trips so I don't ever expect to see that. Good for OP

However I do get 36MPG on my bike so I take advantage of that during favorable weather to ride to work

Hilly + suburban PA + a lotta red lights (with flooring it out of each one) = 12.9 mpg FTL

This sucks. I have to learn how to drive calmly. Its tough.

Update: I'm down to 28.9 at 1/4 tank to go. The key as well is to stay in the open loop portion of your fuel system. If you press the gas pedal down far enough at any engine speed, you will go to closed loop and the fuel values come from the tables, which tend to run rich to protect the engine. Open loop will at least keep you from running rich and wasting gas.

Say whaaaaaaaat? I think you've got that all mixed up.

Definition:

OPEN LOOP

A mode of operation in a computerized engine management system that occurs after a cold start. During open loop, the computer provides a fixed air/fuel ratio that is richer than normal to improve cold drivability until the engine warms up. See also Closed Loop.

Definition:

CLOSED LOOP

The basic principle of electronic engine management in which input from an oxygen sensor allows the engine control computer to determine and maintain a nearly perfect air-fuel ratio. To enter closed loop operation, the oxygen sensor must be producing a voltage signal and the engine must have reached a certain operating temperature. Sell also Open Loop.

(BTW, good luck trying to keep a properly tuned modern engine in open loop for very long)

I've been trying to get good mileage and I can't get close to that, and I know how to drive this car. I've been limiting my speed, watching how I accelerate, and it all helps, but I'm not getting upper 20's... I do 70/30 or 80/20 and best I can get if I really watch it is 24.5mpg. Which I'm super happy with..

I figured out how to get better mileage. Get a different car

Osiris keeps mine in Open Loop. 13 A/F across the board.

Couple other tips, make sure everythings in good condition. Trans oil is clean (not mud), power steering fluid, engine coolant, (motor is used to pump these things), Engine oil is good, differential fluid. etc.

Also, drive with the sunroof down, not up, just more wind resistance, as well as windows open, and having the A/C on.

These can pull an extra 1-2 out.

Yeah that's about right, I have a 2007 A/T and I average around 27-29mpg hwy at 65mph. These cars will get really good gas milege if you use the cruise control most of the time. The brand of gas you use helps also. I try to keep Exxon and Chevron in my car and stay away from walmart, circle k, and corner stores.

I was averaging 320 miles a tank with the old engine no matter what i did..i am now right around 380 miles per tank with the brand new engine..only has 500 miles on it. I am taking it very slow however. 70 on highway...taking off slowly from lights is a huge difference in gas..a good 30 miles a tank
