Dyno tuning (UpRev) -- thoughts?

I've been reading up on some threads here and on MyG about people who did the dyno tune. On average everyone with an Intake/Exhaust is gaining 13-18 hp across the band from the tune, which sounds decent, and those i've seen did not do a base (stock) run.

Between my base w/ SRI run and post Invidia CBE install, i gained about that much, and i somehow find it hard to believe a tune would net me another 15 or so.

Anyone have further insight on this? A local tuner is asking $1k for UpRev plus a few hours of tuning, i want to make sure it's worth it.

Thanks, all.

A tune can really help take advantage of your mods but before I put down 1k i would get some more bolt ons like spacer, mrev, plenum, and whateverexhaust mods or breather mods you want. Then do the tune that will maximize your $$$ spent on tuning. I have heard good results with the Osiris uprev tune so i think you are on your way to enjoying some added performance.

Man you are totally right not sure what i was thinking telling you that since i was bouncing between forums. I would still look into the exhaust and specifically HFC to see if you can benefit.

$1K seems very high for just a tune.

^ agreed. 1k for a uprev tune is way to much. Osiris is only 300 or so, and a few hours of tuning should not cost 700. I paid about 650~ for my uprev tune.

faiz, no problem.

Thanks all for the response.

The $1k is for Osiris Tuner, a couple hours of dyno tuning and tax. We specifically looked into this as i'm planning on going FI down the road.

I paid $350 for UpRev and tune out the door! Max hp and torque were ok, but I had pretty large gains down low and can REALLY notice the difference there.

$1K is high.
I paid a few hundred bucks less and I got the Tuner version cable + 2.5hrs on the dyno tuning it.

So you'd say, more power under the curve? I still have reservations about the tune netting another 15hp or so above what i gained post CBE. Am i overthinking this?

Okay, where are you guys getting them? The shop i talked to is charging the same amount as UpRev for the Tuner (which is $700 on their site), with a couple hours of tuning and 8.25% tax on the whole deal, it's a stone's throw away from a grand.

If i can get Tuner cheaper elsewhere, that would be great!

Thanks.

^In CA, there's shops that will dyno tune with Uprev for under $600. The shop you were quoted from, are they an authorized Uprev tuner?

just checked the shop that i used for uprev and they also have the tuner for 700. I bought the reflash.

so i guess 300 for tuning isnt so bad.

Despite what anyone says, $1000 for UpRev Tuner with a dyno tune is not bad at all. It's an average price, and you might be able to find a dyno tune for $150 less. But why are you getting the tuner if you're not tuning it yourself? Once your car is reflashed, it can be reflashed again and again by any tuner with the cable.

With that said, despite what mods you have, a reflash is definitely worth the money. HP gains aren't the only advantages to getting a reflash.
