I know where your coming from. I feel the same too sometimes
careful with traffic tickets,
i do oil changes every 2,500 miles just to keep it up
you should check the tranny fluid so you dont **** the tranny up. and maybe the differential, try to not rag on it too much, just control yourself a bit, something breaks ... your going to pay a bit for a repair

Oh rag on it all you want. People think these cars are made out of paper or something. Just don't redline it, or go over it. Maintenance is the key to your driving style, the harder you drive to more frequent you should do maintenance. Forget the exhaust and intake, not needed. Enjoy ur car, drive hard and safe. You don't do maintenance, then your hard driving will be short lived.

Fluids, fluids, fluids. Change the drivetrain fluids frequently and drive the car as hard as you want- just keep in mind things like peeling out around corners all the time and hitting curbs and potholes should be avoided for long term reliability.....big difference between driving the car fast and "beating" on it.

I'm confused at why people are commenting about not redlining the motor......every automatic trans has a rev limiter to avoid engine damage. These HR's have "swell" technology which brings on power increasingly like a wave to maximum power which comes at iirc 7,000 rpm.....they were designed to do it and nissan knows how to make a motor that lasts. This is like the 100th variant of their V series V6's.

My '86 300z has its stock motor intact and strong @100k miles...and it hasn't been driven like a taurus You'll break just about everything else in that '08 G35 before the motor breaks assuming you change the oil once in a while.

+1

Maintenance is the only difference between USE and ABUSE

Ha, I was going to let this thread die cause a few seemed to think it was a troll thread. I guess I was hamming it up a little bit, but my question is still real.

You're right about it not being a civic, I won't beat on it too hard. It's just that the car CAN go fast, but the car is still expensive and I want to maintain it. It's not so much that I am beating it to death - I'm halfway joking about that - The main thing is that when I do floor it, and I hear that loud engine noise, I feel like I'm about to throw a rod or something. I'm just not used to having a car that can withstand that kind of acceleration.

I appreciate the feedback. I'll definitely reduce the miles between oil changes, that seems to be a popular suggestion. I'll get a good synthetic oil.

One of these days I'll try to get a cold air intake.

Also, could you explain what you mean by 'check the transmission fluid?' Do you mean check it for quality or check it for volume....

Thanks!

buy some cold air intakes so your engine breeds cold air. i think redline has some radiator additives to keep coolant cooler

If you go Cold Air Intake and Catback exhaust, make sure you get a tune to keep your air fuel ratio optimal. A lean engine that gets beat on a lot is much more likely to not last very long. And make sure you check your transmission fluid more often as well if you are rough with the car. Just to keep in mind, a brand new VQ35 HR motor (which is what you have in your car) can cause up to 10k to repair. I think they cost 7k just for the engine and not including installation. If this is first nice car, protect well and baby it. This is not your beater civic toy anymore. . Welcome to G35 Driver!

You can beat on any car, the only thing is this car will be expensive if anything goes out. I would stay of the redline for long times its not good for any engine to sit at redline. The VQ engine does like spirited driving just not race after race. If you treat your car good it will last a long time. If you abuse it then you won't have it for long.

Tranny fluid consistency should be checked ofter if you are beating your car.

Me thinks you should've gotten an Ap1 S2000 since your title states 9,000rpm redline.. I know I used to redline mine at 9,000rpm and it was heaven.

I use mobil 1 synthetic on all of my cars. I figure if it worked well on my turboed civic, it be overkill on my G.. But my G deserves the best....

You can redline your car all you want and I wont' suspect it will break down on you. But you take the risk of something breaking sooner than later. Change your oil frequently and change the tranny oil as well.....

How often should I change the transmission fluid? I have 31,000 miles on the car right now.

this is purely my opinion only, but if you're redlining all the time. I would change it once a year. You can get a tranny flush, or hook it up to a machine where it totally discharge the old oil and refill with new. I would do the latter although it costs more.

My old 4 runner has 190,000 miles. Change oil every 5k miles using mobile 1 synthetic and it's still running strong. And I never punch it. =)

I'd recommend you spend some time with your owners manual and review the recommended service intervals.

I thought we were talking about something out of the ordinary here, though. I've heard of owners manuals that say that the transmission fluid never has to be changed.

^ Ok yours definitely doesn't say that. Try 30K. If your car came with a manual it has lots of useful info about maintenance then you can decide how often you want to do it based on your driving style. You can also download for free to ur desk top (I think) from Infiniti website. You just cant print it
