wtf? reduced ac airflow for foot???

My driver side foot ac airflow is substantially reduced even at full ac with recirculate...compared to the passenger side it's a dammed joke. What gives??? My in cabin filter is only 2 months old!!!

Funny, just noticed this on a leisurely drive with the wifey today. Hot day, had windows open, feet were a little toasty, turned fan on feet only all the way to max and barely felt anything.

One of those **** details? :-)

Hmmm now I am wondering if its always been like this and this is normal, or if it really did decrease...

^^ No cause I drive with sandals a lot (native Floridian) and I have noticed this for a while, I want to say since I bought it. Aug 2009, Used, 22,500 miles.

REDBARONK- your not the only one and I have no idea whats up, crummy design I'm guessing

I can't say for sure whether this applies to the G's design, but I have come across something like this with BMW before. Basically, they designed the climate control so that the dampers/diverters in the ducting will only direct just so much direct airflow at the driver depending on the extremity of the temperature; the thinking being that too much warm air in the winter would make the driver drowsy, and too much cold in summer would what??? ... freeze your nipples or something

If it's happening with multiple cars, maybe that's what it's supposed to do. Alternatively, I'd suspect either the damper control is faulty, or the ductwork is possibly clogged (gasket debris falling into ducts during cabin filter change maybe?).

To me it seems like maybe the mechanism that switches the airflow is messed up... why would it be strong a year ago, and weak now? And when its on full blast it sounds sort of muffled.... I have an appt to get my crappy compressor replaced AGAIN cause of loud noise.. maybe its connected? Either way I am gonna abuse a loaner while they figure this crap out.

I just noticed this yesterday and recalled seeing the title of this thread. I first tried dual top/foot vents. Then switched to bottom only, then recirculate bottom and almost nothing! I vaguely remember it being like this before and thinking "that's strange" but I didn't really pay it any attention.

Perhaps I'll measure the CFM with my air velocity meter, although what's the point because it seems more like a design issue than defect.

Just a thought, but when you change the vent output selection, do you wait a while for it to stabilize at the new setting? I have noticed that my car takes what seems to be an inordinate amount of time to switch over to the new setting; enough so that I have wondered if it's not working properly, but then after waiting, it functions properly.
