I'm sure that there is a monster thread for newbs out there. But I just need some help finding out what parts I need to buy. I have read up on the concept of lowering, the mechanical parts involved, etc. But I just need some help from the forum getting started. Promise I'll post pics after!

Thanks to anyone that can point me to a resource.

Later.

Okay well...
how low do you plan to go?
budget?
purpose?

I will always say coilovers > springs. I have never believed in springs anyways...

From what I've researched so far that seems to be what I am leaning towards, but I'm not expert by a long shot.

Budget is negotiable. If it takes $1K to get the job done, I'll save up. If it takes $2K, I'll save up for twice as long. I'm just trying to get a grasp of what is involved to do a GOOD job.

And you have a good point with your question regarding purpose. My purpose - and I'm not proud of it - is purely aesthetic. I like how it looks. Plus I hear there are some handling benefits if done correctly. I don't want to do it half-assed. I don't need top of the line. But don't want bottom of the line, either. Middle of the line.

Basically just wondering if the Eibach Pro Kit will handle it for me.

I'm running BC Racing BR coilovers which costed me $920 and rear camber arms were $150. If it is purely aesthetic then i would say springs in your case, but the reason i say coilovers>spring is that if you plan to keep your car long term then coilovers are the way to go. Reason being is that aftermarket springs will wear your OEM struts prematurely because it isn't spec'd to OEM settings.

Ehhhh Eibach will hardly make it any sportier the springs are really progressive so it'll bounce a bit more. I will always say coilovers > springs at the end of the day no matter what.

Dang it. I can't afford what I need to do! Ever! Ok, venting is over.

If I just get the Eibach spring kit. Will it last me 6-7 years?

O and another question: If I just get springs. Do I need to buy anything else? Alignment kit, etc?

I know these basic questions **** a lot of people off, but I'm just getting started with the process.

Just save up for coilovers. It is A LOT better then springs for many reasons. OEM strut life can depend on how you drive, some struts have blown from 8000 miles of usage. You'll need a rear camber arm and toe bolt, then an alignment. Something like 0 toe all around and -1.5 camber all around

I am on coils and there are times where i asked myself did i really need coils could i have gone with springs...

yeah springs will wear out your OEM struts but now there are some tokico struts for the 2nd gen G's i believe. i really dont adjust my coils since you need to get an alignment after you raise or lower them, but its nice to be able to adjust them to the stance you want as opposed to springs where you're stuck with however they settle.

my point is there are pros and cons to each other and really it depends on how much money you're willing to dump when you go springs you might not need a camber kit depending on how low the drop is but for coils you're pretty much bound to buy a kit.

No one has ever reported blowing the OEM V36 struts using Eibach springs. I've had my Eibach springs for over 50K miles and still on my OEM struts.

If it is purely for looks, save your money and go with the springs in my opinion. Your car will still handle better than stock. If you decide you want more adjustability, you can change out to coil overs later. The springs can be easily sold at that time.
