Experienced G drivers: Average RPM at 60mph and speedometer incorrect need input!!!!

Hey guys, I picked up a 07 G35x last week and I am starting to wonder about the car. It had 44500km (27650mi) on it when I bought it.

First they replaced the tires because they were pretty bald, the tires are the correct size so that is not the issue. I have been getting the 'brake' light and 'vdc off' and 'slip' light since day one, but only under harder acceleration like over 4k rpm. I read up on here that that was brake fluid but my levels are pretty good, mid way between max and min. I don't think that's a big issue though, If I have to just throw that in.

Up here (as I'm sure in the States is the same or similar) in Canada sometimes police put up a digital sign to tell you what speed you are going in areas that they want to reduce speeding. I have noticed the car is off by at least 10kmh (6mph) I did a test by following a friend in a car having them hit 80kmh (49mph) and then turning on the cruise control on a level road and I had to hit 90kmh (55mph) to keep pace with them.

Lastly I noticed that at 100kmh (62mph) which is my normal cruising speed on rural roads near where I live, the rpm's are at 2500, in my maxima I just traded in which is also a 3.5 although less tuned of course, the rpm's at that speed were just over 2000.

Here are my questions,

1. How many Miles/KM did you first replace the oem tires? (i know this is different on every car and some of you may not have done so yet and that winter tires obviously also have an affect)

2. When did you first get the low brake fluid warning light ie the slip, vdc, brake light, mileage wise?

3. At 100kmh (60-62mph) what does the tach read? (rpms)

I am starting to suspect this car may have been rolled back and I just want to hear from other G drivers what their numbers are like on these questions.
Thanks in advance for your help, may need to make a decision on whether to take this car back soon.

What size tires are on it?

Tires on the Sport can last anywhere from 15k to 30k+ depending on how aggressively it was driven.

You speedo may be off if someone put non-standard sized tires on it. ANd if it's off by very much, it may also be causing the lights (VDC, slip, etc.).

Lights coming on due to brake pad wear can occur with great variation due to variability of pad wear (like tire tread wear). Mine came on around 35K, but brakes lasted another 14K or so.

^ whs, and since you have X then incorrect sizes all around could cause the vdc, slip lights to come on as well, im guessing its juts the wrong tire size. Post your size and you should be able to get better answers.

The tires were the first thing I checked, I should have said that.

They are 225 55 17.

Also the lights only come on under heavier acceleration, on 'sunday drives' I don't see it at all.

Updated the original post with that info as well.

I drive a 6MT, so your X will probably differ a little.

2400 rpm = 60 mph
2600 rpm = 65 mph
2800 rpm = 70 mph
3000 rpm = 75 mph
3200 rpm = 80 mph

stock sized tires (for Sport)
in 6th gear,
3.54 rear axle ratio

Ok, so if with a 6mt you are at about the same thing then I guess my 5AT doing 2500 rpm is pretty reasonable.

Any stock X'ers out there with a 5AT that know their numbers as well as VQsmile?

62mph is pretty much my normal speed as the rural road speed limit is 80kmh (~50mph) and out here you can pretty much pass a cop doing radar (done it several times) going 100kmh (62mph) without them even looking at you. Anything more than that and they will be having an up close look at you....

i have the same car as you and yes de speedo is not correct, about 8% difference when i check the speed with my garmin or the digital thing you said, and my volvo was the same thing and that makes me think it is normal. so when i cruise at 120 kmh i know that i'm more close to 110-115 kmh

^ thats a big difference though and should not really be "normal" considering i have tested mine numerous times and have been within 1-2mph tops off of what the radar reads... maybe we can have more ppl pitch in and see if its a common issue.

Maybe it is model specific problem with incorrect speedo sync for X models...

1-2mph is like 3-4km/hr

i tested mine against my bb gps and my speedometer reads higher than what it shows on the gps. i was going like 120km/hr on the speedometer and the gps said i was going about 112km/hr

as for the rpms.. mine sits at around 2400 when cruising at 100km/hr (sport model)

Yea to me thats pretty bad hence the thread. I think 1-2 mph is still not good but acceptable but 10kmh or 6mph is pretty bad. I got new brake pads out of the lights but I don't know what they will do about the speedo. They ran some tests and said it was normal so i requested they take my car and another and try it themselves as i did. He said he would see if they can do a better test and maybe calibration. Gonna find out tomorrow.

More input would still be welcome especially by x'ers but not limited to.

Well 1-2 is acceptable cause there are many factors to this, since many radar machines have some measuring difference as well depending on how they are set up they can be set up to show more than what your speed actually is to make you go slower...

I think if you top of your brake fluid it will help eliminate the light, had the same problem levels were within the spec., added a little and it stopped.

As for your other issues, the speedo seems to be off by a lot. If anything when I got by the digital speedo readers mine seems to only be off 2-3mph and that can very well be the way I am viewing it.

Replaced OEM tires at 30K, non sport car here non staggered set-up.

Got the mileage light around,hmmm....35K.

Tach reads 2500rmp at 62

Yeah, I read about the fluid top up trick but they gave me free pads, so I'm not gonna argue.

At the end the best result I got out of this was 6% off. I bought this at a dealership but not a Nissan/Infiniti. But right next door was a Nissan dealership so they did all the work on it.

Guess I'll have to wait till I go past another digital speed sign to see if they actually changed anything or not. Thx guys.
