VDC off

Do any X drivers drive with the VDC off button? and is it okay to drive with it off?

Unless you're driving semi aggressive it won't even make a difference. And of course it's okay to drive with it off.

i drive with VDC off most of the times but there are some horror stories right here on the forums of ppl who turned it off to have some fun and didnt realize how much the car could get out of control without it until they got into an accident or hit s curb etc... so PLEASE be careful!

I drive with it on 80% of the time, but when I see someone tempting me i shut it off quickly.
I rather have it on ... when Im just driving around ... you never know, it has actually come in handy

I run it about 60/40. When I am going WOT with VDC on, I get some rear wheel slippage when the car shifts which engages the VDC and cuts my throttle. So, when I know I am going to be flooring it, I turn VDC off. When I am just cruising, I will leave it on.

Hello Rick, and welcome to the forum. I had to laugh at your question a little. It made me realize that there are probably an awful lot of younger drivers here who didn't grow up driving when there were no electronic nannies to save our sorry A$$es. IDK, maybe you're old enough too, maybe you're not...it just made me laugh.

Anyway, the answer is definitely YES, but one thing to consider besides the caution about not letting it get out of control (and this is one EVERYONE, with AWD or RWD, that drives with VDC off should consider!), is the fact that your car essentially has a "black box" data logger in it's ECU. If you are ever in a serious accident, with lawyers and insurance companies fighting, and your VDC was turned off, that info might be very incriminating if it turns up in an investigation. You should also know that your car logs a snapshot of your speed, rpms, throttle position, steering angle, and god knows what else for a significant period of time before and after an airbag deployment. See where this is going . . . especially if you were out hot-rodding around town?

Furthermore, if you look in virtually any modern auto insurance contract and you'll find that you've agreed to provide all that data from your car to the insurance company; you have essentially surrendered your rights against potential self incrimination. This is the dirty little secret about all this electronic goo-gah that permeates our modern rides. Even though it can be your best friend when you throttled too much coming out of a turn, it can also back-stab you just the same by tattling on you!

As for me, I normally drive with it on and only defeat it when I have pretty much scoped out the scene, am paying full attention (because of the legal liabilities, not the performance), and I am deliberately looking at getting loose or whatever.

Powering through turns is almost impossible for me with VDC on. it's just embarrasing when it kicks in and shuts down the throttle right when I need it. That said, the comments about the datalogger are kind've scary. I wonder if those dataloggers ever break..

On the contrary, if you ever need to prove you weren't doing anything wrong while being involved in an accident, the little black box suddenly becomes your best friend/lawyer. It doesn't discriminate when it comes to providing valuable data.
