On the Craigslist ad car: Well, I called Infiniti of Tacoma. The car is not CPO. Furthermore they claimed the car was bought new from them, then traded in after a while, and then resold as used. This does not agree with Autocheck or Carfax. According to these two agencies this car was sold new in NC, then sold used in Tacoma. I don't know what's going on.

I think I will stay clear of this. The dealer's wife is driving it around so in addition to driving 45 miles to see it now I have to make an apppointment too!

Thanks to everybody's comments on this.

I found another good car (G35x, only 8000 miles), but not a good deal ($32K):

Found another 2008 G35x, only 8,000 miles on it. Very clean. Premium + Nav + backup camera. Dealer had it for $32.8, came down to $30. Yet I still think this is too much and a better price is $28K. Car is not CPO (found it at local Mercedes dealership).

Opinions?

Paul

P.S. Is brake pedal judder/vibration of sort normal in G35? I've test driven a few and three had it to some extent, or maybe I'm too picky?

damn never seen a 3 YO car with that low miles. That is crazy, and it will likely fetch at 1 to 2 k over a 40k used 08 car.

I am looking for AWD so accounting for the 'x' model and lower mileage of the car above (8,000 miles) I guess I have to add at least $3K to this figure ...

You shouldn't have to add that much for an X over an S with similar options.

When I bought mine last year I searche the whole country and found a Red 07 S with 20k miles on it which I got for less than 24k. I had to fly to Dallas and drive it back home to Kentucky but the car was perfect--the one flaw was some idiot had mounted the front plate holder wrong and caused a scratch on the bumper. Seriously, it was otherwise perfect, not a scratch or a ding on it. It has premium and Navigation with the music hard drive and everything.

I committed to buying it before I flew down but it was a small dealer and they didn't even make me pay a deposit. They put it on a car hauler and brought it to the airport in Dallas, unloaded it in a nearby parking lot and the guy came and picked me up in it. I wrote him a check, filed out the paperwork and drove it home.

You can get a really good deal if you search carefully and don't limit your distance. This is not the first car I've purchased over the internet or the longest one away from me. I bought a BMW 330i from Pasadena California a few years ago...flew to LA and drove it home over a weekend.

I bought an 02 WRX a few years before that--had that one delivered from Sacramento CA and it got a ding on the ride--that's why I've been driving them home my self since then.

Get a subscription to Autocheck and Galves pricing guide and start searching for real.

PS: I have driven a couple of loaner g37 since then and be sure to get one with the options...it really doesn't seem like the same car without premium sound, bluetooth, voice control, navigation, etc.

I've started looking at new G37x and EX35s! I will still keep an eye out for a good used deal, but so far I've had no luck.

So here is a question: how do these two cars compare in terms of comfort and quietness?

I know the EX advanatages: folding back seats, larger trunk, around view camera; and the disadvantages: small rear legroom and no homelink on premium package in 2011 (coming 2012).

And the G37x advantages: more sporty and nimble, a sedan (which I'm used to), premium includes homelink ...

But which is more comfortable and quiet? It seems to me that the EX may have the edge here if you don't care for sportiness.

Any other comments or advice? I don't really like it that a luxury car like the EX has homelink in the tech package, or that I have to wait another 2-3 months to see it in a 2012 model (which I won't be able to negotiate as well as a 2011 model).

Thanks very much

Paul

Love the center consoles on the 37, has AC vents for rear passenger. The seats are easier to get in and out of them (less sporty). I'm assuming thats to make it easier for larger (width wise) folks. I've driven some loaners, they were pretty stripped down and not sport models (nor x either). The motor is nice, you can feel the extra ponies, but found that auto tranny very annoying and jerky compared to the wife's altima with CVT.

I'd definitely rather keep my nicely appointed 08 sport 6mt over a stripped down 09-11 G37 tho. Maybe driving a 37 sedan with manual would be a lot better (probably be sport too). I don't think I've ever seen one but I know they do exist. It's just not the same though the all the options stripped out.
