Unhappy Help?

Okay I don't know if I have bad luck or what. Besides the fact that my Check Engine Light keeps coming on after I fix one problem it's the other, I just realized that when I shut my car off, the tachometer (RPM) goes down to 1 and stays there while everything else falls down to the zeros, like they should. It was weird. I hit the dash to see if it would wiggle or anything but nothing. I'm thinking of resetting my car by unplugging my battery. Maybe this will help reset the computer? The only thing I will lose with this is my presets on the radio right? Any advice?

A battery reset will reset the radio presents, but what does it matter at this point lol? Try a ECU reset

You got test pipes/HFC?

just disconnect your negative terminal on the battery for 24 hours if you can. That reset everything for me. If it comes back on you might want to get that checked out.

That wont fix your rpm needle issue from what iv seen... iv seen two such issues on this forum, one(i believe it was e-ticket) had his cluster replaced under warranty and the other had an ecu update performed.

Honestly, this might sound stupid but I think it had to do with the heat... I went out last night and it was back to normal. When I went out late afternoon the temperature was still 109 with a heat index of 120. Driving down the expressway my RPM was at about 3800 at 70 MPH, much higher than the usual 2800 at that speed. I'm thinking there was just a glitch or something to do with the humidity?

It's got to be the problem. Because that was the hottest it's ever been since I've had the car and that's the only time it's ever happened. Today is cooler at 95 degrees and no problems... Oh well

^ good to hear but this should not be normal... we just experienced a few of the hottest days ever in this area with the heat index touching 118 which is very high here and i had no such problems which included 70 mile drive each day in full rush hour stop and go traffic.

Now you got me worried lol... I don't know, could it be that I just switched over to synthetic oil the day before?

^ no thats not the issue, it something electronic which is heat related for sure, syn oil has nothing to do with it. But dont worry too much about it unless it happens again, and if it does then drive staright to the dealer while its doing it so that they can log the complaint with evidence into their systems even if they dont service the car on the same day.

At one time I had a BMW that would go bonkers occasionally, but of course, never when anywhere near the dealership. I put up with it for a while until one time when it did it, I grabbed a camera that I happened to have in the car and took pictures of the tachometer revved to 3000rpms, the speedo at about 25 mph, and the temp and alt gauges all in normal range for driving . . . BUT in the background you could clearly see the key was out of the ignition and sitting on the dash and the shifter was in PARK the whole time (not to mention I was parked directly facing a big tree). Got the pics printed and took them in at the next service and they FINALLY fixed it.
