Engine air filter comparision

First contestant: WIX air filter.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WIX-4...Q5fAccessories

Second contestant: Other brand air filter. For example,

Third contestant: OEM Nissan air filter.

What is your experience with those brands? I myself only use OEM Nissan air filter but thinking to try the other brand.

I used OEM in my 07x and I will continue to use them in my 11S.

just installed WIX and dynoed, no loss or gain really. Seems exactly equivalent to the OEM one. Got mine from rockauto, and I bought 4, ended up being cheaper than ebay after shipping.

I just installed 2 of the WIX air filters in my car. I had OEM in there before and they looked pretty decent. I compared the quality of the OE to the WIX and they definitely looked comparable at at $10.50 a piece at my local auto parts store its a pretty good value.

I got the K&N filters. I plan on having my car for several years and figured I would save money in the long run by not having to buy new filters every 6k miles.

You dynoed the car just because of new drop in air filters?

Guys with WIX, can you give me the link or a name of an auto shop so I can come and pick them up?

I get Wix brand at a smaller local/regional auto parts store chain, but the last time I checked the Napa auto parts stores all sold identical re-branded Wix oil and air filters under their own Napa Gold brand name.

Rather than call this ebay listing an "other brand", I would actually call this a generic NO-NAME brand. While I have at least heard of Beck Arnley, Fram, etc., I have never even heard of the "Premium Guard" brand shown in that link.

for those of you that want the wix filters in the Midwest its carried by O'Reilly Auto Parts

http://www.oreillyauto.com/

However the NAPA gold air filter looks almost the same as Wix and its the same price.

Here's a question, how often will you be replacing the filters?

These days, most common-brand drop-in replacement filters will work equally well. One may flow better than the other brand new, but my guess is all will drop flow equally when dirty -- which doesn't take long.

"Open" filters will let more air, as well as dirt, in. Finer meshes will excel with filtration but suffer a little with flow.

Long story, i say choose from a reputable source and be sure to replace often. Even an (arguably) great K&N filter won't work well if left in place without cleaning for extended periods of time.
