Question on purchasing either 05 or 08?

I am in dire need of a car and originally wanted something cheaper; under $15k. I am picky with car choices and looked at an 05 G35 sedan with 82k. I can get it for $11500. The paint is a bit dull (AZ sun and so many park outside at home), glazed over headlights, door trim molding needs replaced and soon will need the 90k service. It also has light curb rash on a couple wheels. I am not sure I can bring a vibrant shine back to the paint.

Now I am also considering an 08 G35X Sedan with only 18k and mint condition and aftermarket wheels. The car is loaded and the price is $25k.

I know a big difference in price, but I want to keep the car for 5-7 years if possible and most likely will be putting about 20k miles a year on the car. I will be financing and payments come down to about $85 more a year on the 08 and of course the payments will be for 24 months longer.

My first choice in cars was the VW CC, but I really don't want to spend anymore than $25k for a car. Since I live in AZ and buy from a private seller I don't pay any sales tax which is huge benefit, especially on the $25k. Also, my credit union offers extended warranties for $1295 with 0 deductible. If I bought the 05 I would consider the warranty, but unsure on the 08.

What do you think?

If you're going to put around 20K/year on a car, I would opt for the '08 model. You can probably get a couple more grand off from that price. I would shoot for $22K. GL.

Actually they are firm at $25, they were asking $26. KBB shows the car value at $26 in excellent condition with the mileage. I know the book is only a guide, but I have been shopping around on that price and although it seems high to me I cannot find a similar car for less money. Both dealers and private sellers are asking the same if not more and again if I buy from a dealer I pay almost 10% more in tax. So if I were to buy from a dealer I would have to get it for about $23k to end up at the same price.

Well, if the deal is right then go for it. Make sure you test drive the car and take it to a mechanic to check it out.

I have been searching both Craigslist and Ebay and still cannot find a better deal. Actually most are asking more on either a comparable 05 or 08. They both seem high to me but I have not found anything cheaper. I will check Autotrader.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you - started looking for something in the <15k range and am now looking at G35Ses in the 20-25 range. The V35 cars can be had for fairly cheap, but I decided I'd be happier in the long term having the nicer interior and features of the V36.

I've been shopping for a while and $25k doesn't really seem overpriced for an 08 X with low miles. Are there cheaper ones out there? Probably. Are the cheaper ones just as clean? Who knows. Have you looked for any non-AWD? Being from the frozen tundra, I can't imagine needing AWD in Phoenix.

I paid just a little more for my car with 20k more miles, but I got mine at a dealer as a CPO and mine is an xS.(Also had pretty nice, mint aftermarket wheels)
That is really low miles, but if you dont need AWD, you can prolly get a better deal on just an RWD or maybe even an S.
My buddy is moving to Phoenix and we were looking at infiniti's for him and found a 11 G37S limited edition Sedan with 15k miles, for 34k. It was beautiful. I know you can get a better deal on an 08 in Phoenix.

Omar-don't need X model in AZ. Just happens to be the mileage and color I was after. Still can't find a rear wheel model with the mileage any cheaper.

This one has aftermarket wheels and I can add a 100k warranty with 0 deductible for $1200 which I think would be better than a CPO. In addition not sure that G37 is a great deal either. If bought from a dealer it would be another $3000 plus just in tax making that $37k with similar mileage. That would be $12k or almost 50 percent more.

18k for a car that old is very very low miles. It will be worth more than a 50k care for the same price. I don't see many g's with that mileage.

Keep looking then. It's a wasted expense, both in cost and maintenance, for an AWD model when you don't really need it.

Try using nada.com it usually has lower prices than KBB.com Actually you can find 07' for around $20k with 50kish miles. Pretty much the same cars. I got mine off of ebay from a dealer with a clean carfax. They are out there to do some searching. Congrats onthe no tax as that ran me a grand on mine

Also if you live in AZ you really don't need an "x", save a few MPG and some cash.
