Sunroof question

Not sure if this is in the right spot so please move as needed. I have an 08 sedan lowered on eibach pro's with 20's. Every time i open my sunroof as vent it makes a nasty grinding sound. I've had it in the dealer a few times and they just say they cleaned it and its fine. It works fine for a few months then its back. The last time i took it in, the guy told me im having these problems because my car is lowered and on rims. He said the sunroof just sits freely up there and since its bouncing around up there it causes the seal to dry out and this is whats causing the grind sound. My question is anyone else having this issue. He told me they could cover it under warranty but if its gonna keep doing this i don't wanna replace it every year.

If my dealer service techs said something that silly I would have turned around and stayed very far from them.
Anyway, did you check if the sunroof TSB might apply? ITB09-038 and/or ITB07-032a
They may not directly apply but could be related although you problem sounds a little different.

Does the grinding seems to be caused by something rubbing when you raise the sunroof or from the motor?

He said it was the rubber on the front rubbing on the metal. If you wipe it with dry silicone stuff it goes away but now comes back really quick.

Does it by any chance leak if/when you use a drive-thru 'touchless' car wash?
I would gently push the dealer to apply TSB ITB07-032a. This will provide you with a brand new rubber seal. Sound like yours is defective. It doesn't cost the dealer anything to do this. It may take a little convincing. It's worth a shot.

it does not leak I don't go through car washes I wash myself. The guy told me it would be a new window not rubber. Something about rubber can't be replaced, I don't know. I'll give it a shot though. I found it hard to believe . I ave had many lowered cars with sunroofs and never had an issue with it.

Same here...only ever hand wash. I was thinking you could do it, more as a leak test. If it leaks you have another reason to have it fixed under warranty.
Good luck.

Thanks i think ill take it to another dealership and heave them fix it. The one i usually go to can be pretty stupid at times. after i lowered my car i needed my headlights adjusted up so they werent pointing into the ground. this one had no idea how to do it the other knew exactly what i needed. Hopefully they can do the same with my roof. And i will defiantly mention the TSB thank you for that.
