Wow.

Never owned an AWD vehicle before, only FWD's.

Let me tell you how happy I am that I got the X. There is a good 4 inches of wet heavy snow on the ground and I love the traction this thing has. i even went to an un-plowed parking lot to play for a bit and see how it handles, no way in hell did the car slip up or feel like I was going to get stuck.

I know you can, just telling all about my experience.

 

I just bought an X model as well a couple months ago. Probably won't be able to test the snow thing-I am in AZ. What a place for a X model! Well maybe I will head to Flagstaff and go skiing. That is my best bet at snow. Glad to hear it does as it should.

 

The X model is awesome I had a rwd g35 coupe before and with snow tires it did great but honestly it still doesn't compare to my X with snow tires Glad to hear you enjoyed the traction lol.

 

On a related note i get caught out there yesterday with summer only tires in my Sport. I had no idea that snow storm was comming. Let's say I felt like I was on skis. had to drive 20 mph on the Garden Sate Parkway to get home from my oil change appointment. I typically change to winter tires in mid november. Lesson learned. Pay attention to weatehr forcast the day before.

 

The half a dozen times that my AWD has saved me around here no FWD or RWD cars were even moving. We're talking trucks, SUVs and real AWD cars being the only ones on the streets. This was in my then daily driven Subaru. And no, Toyota/Honda/Ford etc... FWD based AWD systems are not the same as ours, or Audi's Quattro, or any other misc systems using viscous coupling. So, snow tires or not, no RWD would even begin to try to move in such conditions.
Other than that, I would so love to have a RWD as a daily. I really would.

 

Ya i disconnected my RWD, after the freak snow up in NY for Halloween(WTF?!) I had to not only put my bike away for the Winter, but plug my AWD back in(which all of you driving the G35X can do and have a summer RWD car) I have sooo much more control over the car now

I'm going to miss my X this winter. I drove it, 3 winters with Blizzaks, and it would go through anything offered up by mother nature the past few years.
I've got a brand new set of winter wheels/tires for my new rwd sport but I know it won't be the same as my old X...not even close.

Question about the SNOW setting...what exactly does it do? Would it be bad to have the SNOW setting ON but in only rainy conditions?

 

I too want to have some clarification here. I've heard anything from it causes your transmission to start in 2nd gear from a stop to it causes the AWD system to be constant 50/50 up to a certain speed instead of waiting for slippage...

Anyone?

 

It would be pointless unless you find your self losing traction accelerating from a stop. If you are you might need tires. It won't hurt anything by leaving it on but it will be less fun to drive.
This question "what exactly does it do" has been asked and answered many times. Do a quick search for snow mode.

 

My wife accidentally turned it on the other night and drove it home, I just wanted to make sure it mess anything up since the wheel wouldn't have been slipping any.

No I don't but I can imagine how amazing it would be with them on. Perhaps I may get a set.
