Bumper chips
Bumper chips
Has anyone had their front bumper replaced under warranty due to excessive chips? My bumper has a tons of chips but both the hood and the grill are relatively good. Interested in hearing others experiences.
Sorry, but there's no way it will be covered under warranty. The soft paint used by Infiniti and most other manufacturers nowadays is prone to chips. Best bet is to respray it and get a clear bra.
If jkat13 is anything like me he likes taking bras off, not putting them on

Clear bras are a pretty expensive endeavour, not sure how well they protect, I've heard a handful of people who got the 3m clear bra and were pretty happy with it. Everyone above is right though, you will never get the stealership to repaint that under warranty.

I guess I am suprised to hear that no one has had it redone under a warranty claim. Believe me, I total understand that its a wear and tear item. However, it is quite possible that excessive chiping can be a defect in the product.
When the plastic bumper chips way easier than the surrounding painted steel fenders and hood, it makes you wonder if there was a problem with the paint application process on the bumper. Typically the plastic would be more resilient to chips than the steel due to the flex agent that is in the paint to allow for the bumper to flex without cracking the paint.

I thought mine had an issue like that, took it to a body shop (for unrelated work), and they said the bumper was repainted without taking it off, probably on a car lot, and it was hozed and would take too much work to re-prep it for a repaint
So if I get tired of it gotta get a new bumper and paint it.
Are you the original owner? if not wonder if its something similar.

"Excessive" would be a relative term and would be the basis for the argument on whether its considered a defect (my opinion) vs normal (likely Infiniti's position). I can say that this is my second G35. The first one I owned for 4+ years with 62,000 miles and this one I have owned for just about 4 years and 57,000 miles. The second generation's bumper is in far worse shape than the 1st generation, both driven in the exact same driving conditions.
