Well, it's always possible you got some really bad gas.

But actually, I'm not sure I understand why you're just associating the car's current issue with filling the gas tank. If this is the first time it's ever happened, it could just as easily have been nothing more than because you shut it off to refill with gas. Was it running perfectly before this happened? Is it throwing a check engine light? If it is, I'd get it read asap; if it isn't, I'd try resetting the ecu and go from there.

i've tried several different gas stations including shell, chevron, bp and still the same thing, it happens every time the tank is filled, and only after its filled, no check engine light. and no starting issues after the initial start with a full tank. how would u reset the ecu?

OK, well that's a little different from what you first said.

New questions: Do you smell gas abnormally in and around the under-hood area after filling the gas tank?

One possibility which I would investigate is the whole vapor recovery system operation for your gas tank. Your car's tank is normally vented to the atmosphere through the EVAP system which is basically a charcoal canister, some tubing, and check valves that collect vapor/odor off the top of the tank and recirculates that gas, accumulated in the form of vapor in the vent system, back into the fuel delivery system . Besides aiding in pollution control, this allows the tank atmospheric pressure to remain constant as tank volume fluctuates due to temperature variations in the gasoline as well draw-down from the fuel pump providing gas as you drive.

Theoretically, if your tank is not vented properly due to a failure in the EVAP system, it can build up negative atmospheric pressure (ie. vacuum) which would affect the fuel pump's ability to draw fuel from the tank. If this were occurring, it would be at it's absolute worst when the fuel tank was completely full (just trust me there, cause I'm not going to explain why).

A simple model for the general effect I'm referring to would be to fill a glass with liquid, insert a straw, then cover and seal the top of the straw with your finger, and lift the straw out of the glass. If you've properly sealed the end of the straw, you should see the liquid remains in the straw and won't come out unless you release your finger from the end of the straw. The resistance of the liquid to leave the straw, in spite of gravity pulling on, is similar to the resistance your gasoline would have toward being drawn into the fuel pump.

Of course this could also just be a WAG brought on by too much coffee on my part.

I think the evap system is a good call. Nissan has had problems with the EVAP vent control solenoid used in our cars and across multiple lines. There is a tsb on it. For the hell of it, I would pull OBDII codes and see if there is anything EVAP related that may not trigger the service engine light.

Hmmm, It sounds pretty bad to me. If you don't think it is THAT bad, it makes me wonder how long this lasts after you fill up? If it's just for a very short period of time, then I have to ask if you habitually overfill your tank? If you do, it could just be that your EVAP system is constantly overwhelmed. There may well be something wrong with it yet, but overfilling certainly won't help any.

WOW, that's crazy that it behaves like that. Have you tried filling it to something like 3/4 tank (or some other partial fill) to see if it truly ONLY does it when you fill the tank? Also, are you still under warranty?

ok tried filling to multiple different levels and still the same result, the only way it didnt do that was when i filled less than a 1/4 of the tank at a time, needless to say im not going to do that everytime i get gas just so it starts right away. pulled the codes and theres nothing there, says my evap system is running normally...not sure where to go next, i would hate to take this to infiniti for them to troubleshoot knowing they're gonna rape me and then tell me its in my head lol

ok new issue, now it seems like if i dont get a really slow pump the car shuts off the pump after like 5 gallons or so and wont let me put any more fuel in, it acts like its full when in reality its only halfway full, i wonder if this problem is related, either way its starting to be a real pain in my ***

If it's consistent, then I think it very well may be related, AND I still think it has to do with venting of the tank (ie. EVAP, overflow, etc).
