07 G35S changed trunk lid struts

After 4 + years, I decided to change the 2 trunk lid strut supports. Searched online for replacement. Infiniti price is $140 each! Found O'Reilly Auto has the original manuf, Sachs Stabilus, model SG471003 for $11.99 each plus tax, S/H. Total for 2 is $40.19. Correct length, but had to swap the top to bottom from original install configuration. The new one cylinder end socket is too large to fit onto the bracket ball stud, not enough clearance to install. So I put the rod end up with the cylinder end down so to speak. Even though all the online catalogs say this model is correct replacement, it is sort of considering the end swap for installation. Amazon.com had several Monroe struts listed as replacement, but more $. I can tell an improvement on the trunk upward movement with new ones; don't know if it is enough to warrant replacement.

Yeah, I was curious how bad your originals could be after only 4 years.

Lid didn't go up at top by itself at all before. Now has a bit of spring at top. Not worth $280 for sure for Infiniti ones.

I have to pull mine up, and the trunk doesn't open really unless I lift it. Should it spring all the way open by itself when I pop the trunk? I assumed you had to life it open yourself.

Well, I bought mine to order and picked it up within a few days of it arriving to port, and it has NEVER opened all the way up. My best guess is that hey didn't intend for them to because of the odd way that they travel as they lift.

This may come in handy for those with sound deadener installed on the underside of the trunk lid. My trunk feels heavier and closes a lot easier (almost on its own after half way point) from the added weight. I will probably upgrade my struts to heavier ones if I decide to add more layers of deadener in the future.
