rotor help
Hey guys,
I'm having issues with warped rotors possibly the front and a big time squeak when I'm backing out of the driveway. I've had the rotors re-surfaced two times and both times a new set of brake pads have been added and the issues go away but come back quicker then I anticipate. I've heard a few complaints on this forum about stock rotors being crap and was wondering what rotor would you guys recommend that wont cost an arm and a leg?
what do you guys think of cross drilled rotors? frankly I don't know much about them.
I'm tired of storing good brake pads in the garage just because these rotors keep needing a resurface.
THANK YOU!
Mike

is something like this product too cheap to be true?

Was looking to buy that as well and see that 26 other buyers bought them within the last month. It is def. a great deal and from a reputable seller Brakemotive! please someone confirm if you have bought this and if they are holding up. Or let us know if its a good deal even though they are not high quality drilled rotors, it sure is a nice price to pay for all rotors and pads.
Personally, I hated the stock rotors and brake pads.
Mine warped also, and even after resurfacing, the warping came back much sooner, which is expected due to the rotor thinning out. Even the warping rotor caused my wheel bearings to go bad, although dealer replaced them under warranty, so it was good.
I threw all the rotors and brake pads away once the fronts were done at around 60k miles, and I put a set up of Centric Premium Rotors and Hawk Performance Ceramic brake pads.
My car now stops smoothly and even did well on emergency braking without any warpage issues. I got all the parts from Amazon for about $380 and $250 for installation at a local mechanic. Definitely worth the cost compared elsewhere. Dealer and Firestone wanted over $1200 to replace rotors and brake pads which are probably inferior.
I bought 2 of each of the rotors and a set of the brake pads. Also, I would not be cheap on certain parts like brakes. They are perhaps one of the most important parts in your car. Don't go for cheap when it comes to safety. I don't think the Ebay listing OP posted would be really reliable. Our cars are very aggressive when driving and stopping, and you need brakes you can rely on. The brake rotors you listed also don't appear to have any sort of rust protection, so they will probably look ugly really quickly. I've never heard of Kinetic Rotors before; they are probably some offshore Chinese company that sells lower quality parts. Centric is the parent company of StopTech and PowerSlot, so they are reputable.

Ditto. I love the combo and have had no issues. Got mine from Tirerack.
I'd be weary of generic ceramic pads. I like my Hawk ones, but I've heard a lot of the others have reduced stopping power. Do you have a sport? if so that ebay set is not compatible.
If you don't want to mess around just get r1 premium rotors or oc autosports zinc coated, and get some hawk pads, or hawk ceramic if you don't like brake dust. It'll cost more but lots of members here use those rotors without issue.

Thank you for the responses guys... I've got a journey sedan with the sport 18's... I will do more research on the ones you guys recommend in your posts. I'm annoyed with the deterioration of these rotors and the fact that I have to buy new brake pads when the ones that I had on are still good to use. two more question and that's it:
What is wrong with using the brake pads you have on new rotors? I've heard its always best to replace the pads when re-surfacing but never found out why.
now if I do replace the rotors do you think it will be ok to use factory brake pads instead of aftermarket? because clearly the issue seems like its with the rotors and not
the pads.
I don't know! lol

There is nothing wrong with using used brake pads on new rotors- but keep these things in mind:
Once a rotor is warped the brake pads WILL conform to the shape of the warped rotor after repeated use because the brake pad is not catching evenly with the rotor surface. You will have uneven surfaces on your brake pads. Some shops will sand down your used brake pads to make it even again, but that's the same as resurfacing your rotors. Your pads will be as good as new once sanded down, but you lose some pad life that way. It's better to have everything new to prolong life of them.
Also, used pads might have already overheated from warping and maybe have some chemical composition that could change which could reduce their overall effectiveness later on. Semi-metallics are not as good as ceramics when dissipating heat and also create much more noise than ceramics. That's why space shuttles use ceramics. Sometimes, it's not worth the risk unless these pads are fairly new and recent.
Factory OEM brake pads are pretty harsh on the rotors, since they are semi-metallic. Brake pads are really cheap anyways, and you might as well buy new ones. Rotors on the other hand, are pretty expensive. I wouldn't trust either the OEM rotors or the brake pads since I've had horrid experiences with those. Better be safe than sorry.

got ya... Thank you for clarifying that!... I will keep you guys updated on the purchase and will review the rotors frequently.

I concur with the idea of getting good name brand pads and rotors. I see no reason other than the bling factor to get cross drilled rotors. If you must have something other than blanks, I would get a slotted rotor instead. Here's a good reference article regards brake rotor "warping":
