vibration and click sound from the front of the car

Today after a lot of weeks I found the click sound that was very annoying.
I did have a strange vibration in the steering and after changing all my tires it was still there.
Results that the rack and pinion on the passenger side has a play inside in the bushing.
That thing makes a click sound when you put on the gas and stop.
OEM replacement is very expensive (over $1,400 ) if you don't have warranty.
I will put this on : cardone parts

Look into this if you guys if you have the same situation.

Interesting. In 2008, I noticed a popping sound when turning the wheel, even at a dead stop. They replaced my steering rack and no problems since.

Agh, just changed my oil today and checked out the steering rack only to find the 'bolt' next to the driver side boot leaking atf(its a bolt with two straight sides to hold onto, not a regular bolt)... EDIT: THIS BOLT

I had started to get a clunking sound at times when turning or taking off but was never consistent, checked all the ball joints, tie rods, boots, control arms etc and everything was fine except for this leak, it is VERY minor since the fluid level is barely dropped in these months.

Search around and found that A LOT of people have had this issue with nissan Z and infiniti Gs where the steering rack starts leaking and needs replacing. Some issues reported HERE

I have infiniti elite warranty and will be taking my car in to be checked out in a couple of weeks(after replacing my worn tires) and hope they fix it under the warranty, i found one instance where they denied to fix the rack under warranty because the person had larger wheels/tires which i do as well and had to involve corporate and weeks of fighting... hope they dont try to cheat me out of this, i will post back in a few weeks after my visit.

What type of vibration? I have been having steering and seat vibration problems for 12K miles with nothing fixing it

^ check if your steering rack is leaking like the one i posted the pic of above, who knows this could be the issue youve been having all along... fingers crossed!

however if its not leaking, fluid level is good and boots are not torn then thsi wont be an issue for u

I balanced all the wheels and vibration persist.
It was like when you have a tire worn or something like that.
More noticeable at 60 to 70 mphs.

^ check if your steering rack is leaking and report back, seems like a common problem unfortunately and it sad to see that only solution offered is to replace the entire rack and the components.

Hate to bring back an old thread but my 2008 g35 (25kmiles) has the same issue.

took it to a body shop witch raised the car and WD40'd the rack and pinion witch resolved the problem.

One month later and the clicking came back not as bad but its there.

Will be taking to dealer soon hopefully they will replace it under warranty.
