has anyone done testpipes as their first engine mod? if so thought?

 

Hahaha! I getting some Used GTM Test Pipes tomorow! Actually my second performance mod besides my Akebonos!
I'll let you know! I have the stock exhaust so I am hoping to get a bit more sound!

how bad is the raso shane?

 

I heard about the Rasp! Someone told me I shouldn't get that much! Getting GTM Resonated Test Pipes! Will see! I'll make before and after clips!! Is rasp bad?

its usually only at wot.

 

As said, the rasp is mostly heard at WOT or spirited driving.

The other thing about test pipes is that you will get that wierd sound "metal tingy" sound when the engine is winding down at around 3k rpm. Search youtube and you'll see what I'm talking about. It might not be as bad with the sedan exhaust, but it's noticable on the OEM coupe exhaust with test pipes.

 

I bought the megan RTP's first, but ended up getting a deal on a FI catback, so I installed both at once. Rasp is not bad at all, others have commented the rasp is very small. I'd get the ART pipes for best sound and HP gain. If you don't have the budget the cheapo megan's have resonators and seem to be fine to me.

Btw I highly recommend a Osirus tune, after doing TP+exhaust, I was running lean, and sometimes under WOT I would get major hesitation/jerking. I got the tune a week ago, and all is well now, engine really sings and all issues gone. The cats and exhaust are major restrictions on these cars, so be prepared after doing these mods to get least get an e-tune from uprev to make your car run correctly. Those guys also recommended the stillen gen 3, esp once you have freed up the exhaust, then an intake can actually do something.

 

I agree 100%. My af ratio was out of wack before the tune. I had a lot of sputtering in the mid-range. The tune fixed it and all is well. The graph below is with Megan RTP on my very first initial tune. I have ART's now and it made a big difference. I just have to find that graph.
