hey fellow org members,
my name is pete and i used to have a 2002 maxima 6spd and was on the nycmaxima and maxima.org forums and just upgraded to the infiniti game. i got an white 07 4dr g35x and would like experts opinion on a couple of things.

1. i wanted to get a front lip if anyone has pics or recommendations on which is the cleanest looking one that would be great

2. also i wanted to drop the car but dont want to lose the ride quality at all. If you can tell me your set up or what springs would give me a mild drop yet still ride like stock that would be great.

also just because i am new here have a quick question. when i go from park to reverse or neutral to drive the rpms go to about 1100 in neutral and then drop when put into drive. now i was told that is normal but i feel a lil jerk when engaging into drive? is that normal on these cars or are my mounts bad? car has 75k

thanks alot for all your opinions and help

Welcome....

1) I can't help you with this; I don't have and don't plan to get a lip

2) you say you want a "mild" drop, so I'd assume you want to be around 1" or less. If that's the case, there are basically only two options from what I've found-- either purchase Impul brand lowering kit for the car (don't remember the website, but someone else can surely help you with that), OR put 2009+ Nissan 370z springs in the front of the car (and the front only) and then complete the "rear shock mount" mod which you can find on this forum with some searching. The Impul kit is pretty expensive and is very hard to find, while the 2nd option I mentioned (using 370z springs and the rear shock mount mod) is fairly cheap and is relatively easy from what I've read. Actually, I'm getting it done to my own car (2008 X) this week. Note that the REAR springs from the 370z will NOT work for our cars, only the fronts--hence the reason for cutting down the rear shock mount a bit to lower the car.

As far as your other concern with the transmission, my 08 does not act the way your are describing, but I only have 40,000 miles.

Good luck and congrats on your purchase....these are fun cars.

I should of also mentioned that with any other aftermarket lowering 'kit' (springs)--which there are a few available for these cars--the amount the car is lowered will be more than 1". So if you are willing to drop more than an inch, then maybe a kit other than Impul would be for you. But be careful, because the front diff hangs pretty low on these cars, so I can't see an 07 or 08 X being lowered more than an inch and lasting very long, at least not on roads that are like those around my place!

Also, if money is not an issue, maybe coilovers would work for you. But again, be careful, because some, even adjusted as high as they go, will still lower the car more than what you probably should as an X owner.

Hope this helps.

Yet another reason to go with the 370z springs up front and rear shock mount mod. The springs only cost around $115 each and the factory rear shock mounts can be cut down (which obviously costs nothing), so you are looking at around $230 total for a conservative drop if you do the work yourself. If not, tack on a little bit of labor, but not much....

EDIT: check out this thread https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-bra...xperiment.html

Before you go dropping $230 on a rear set of springs check the 370z forums, guys are frequently buying aftermarket springs and coils, I picked up a set that was bascially brand new for $80 shipped! I also bought an extra set of spring mounts in case I wanna go back to stock height. You can get a set from Rick at Perry Infinit pretty cheap.

As for the front lip, this is a great option for the non sport bumper. Guess I'm kinda partial since I have one...

Good luck w/ your mods!
