Check engine soon light
Check engine soon light
Hey guys, my "Check Engine Soon" just came on at like 42K miles. I bought my car used (@ 35K) so I'm not sure if this is a required service maintenance. Do I need to go to the dealership to get a service done or can I go to a 3rd party shop to get it done? And does anyone know what the dealer service would actually be?
That is not a service light this isn't like a bmw that reminds you at maintenance intervals. This could be a sensor malfunction, loose gas cap, safety malfunction. I would get an odb2 reader to give you an idea of what it could be. The only thing is that reader is for various makes and models it is not specific to reading infinitis that is where the dealership is able to make their money.
Just take it to your local auto part store (like advance auto parts, autozone etc) and they will connect a OBDII reader to your car and tell you whats wrong for free! then you can take it from there.
Thanks for the replies! I'm going to have a friend who's a mechanic run the diagnostic and see what the issue is. If its major, I'll bring it to the dealership and make use of my extended warranty. =P
Its not blinking. Oh I was incorrect its "Service Engine Soon" light...

Sigh, I had my mechanic friend run diagnostics...I forget the code that came up but it read "EVAP system large leak"
Apparently my gas cap was loose and brought up the error code. Such a noob move.
Cleared the code and hasn't come up since. =P
Thanks for the help guys!
