so i have an 08x... 71k miles. finally got my Eibachs on and when i get home i can smell a faint burning more noticeable towards the rear of the engine bay...

I read through all the pertaining threads on here and infintihelp and it seems like its likely one of three issues.

1) oil pooling around spark plugs (hasnt been ruled completely out but no visable seepage and the car wasnt making this smell until lowered)

2) belts (checked by dealer less than 1k miles ago...unlikely)

3) cats now touching rusty heat shield and causing smell

im obviously leaning towards door #3 but wouldnt the smell be coming from the rear and not entering the cabin? ALso, none of the other Xs on eibachs have been reporting this

man I jussss got this thing checked out last month and cant really afford random maintainence. Any insight would be greatlyyyy appreciated.

Is it a burning plastic/rubbery smell.
My previous G was an X. When I swapped the front springs I tore one of the inner CVJ boots and it leaked lubricant onto hot engine parts.
If so, you will see a creamy coloured lubricant. Turn (or remove) the front wheels so you can see and reach in past the wheel well liner. It would also be noticeable from under the vehicle.

hmm dont have the capabalities for even the simplest of things like this at my new apt. complex... should i take it back to the shop that lowered it and have them look at it?

it seems a lil more noticeable after uphill drives. you dont think it could be the cats now burning sumthing after the lowering?

I have almost similar problem. I have a 2003 G35 v6. About 212K miles. Runs good, but every morning when I start the car, I can smell some unburned gas. Just changed new spark plugs a few months ago. The old plugs has oil pools around the spark plug threads. My engine oil level is normal ie no substantial oil loss b/cos I check regularly. Last year during smog check, altho' the car passed the smog check test, it's at the borderline pass. Does that has to do with the oil burned smell? What caused it? How do I stop this? Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

^ If the oil is not on the plugs tip and is only slightly 'pooled' around the plug on the outside then it was kind of common on the 1st gen VQ35DE's basically the valve cover gasket goes bad around the spark plug hole causing the oil to seep through, you can keep driving as is or get a new valve cove rto fix the issue as they have made it one piece OR there is some company out there(forgot name) that offers replacement gasket for around the plugs but you have to do some moderate work with the cover to allow you to be able to make those gaskets serviceable rather than one piece.

I know this cause my friend had this issue with his 05 G a few years back and we ended up replacing the cover but later found the other solution as listed above, hope it makes sense else google something like 'g35 oil in spark plug tube/hole' and you should find many threads or just go the 1st gen section of this forum for more help as they have threads on this there.
