Quick Question: 6mt oil

I have searched and read the owners manual and could not find my answer. Does the 6mt have a dipstick for checking the transmission/gear oil? Or is there some other way to check it?

I just got my G with no service records, so I plan on changing the engine oil to be safe and checking everything else a little more this weekend.

I'm not 100% sure but i know the old g35 did not have a transmission dipstick, so after that I never really bothered with checking my transmission levels just changed the fluid at the stated intervals. I did however pop down to my local dealer and asked them for the service records when I got my infiniti. Usually if you say you just got the car used and you're contemplating what service needs to be done they'll be glad to pull up what's due. GL OP

Thanks, that's a good idea.

NO, there is no 'dipstick' on the 6MT tranny. The proper way to check it is to simply remove the upper (filler) plug and see/verify that the oil is level with the bottom of the hole (ie. when you fill it, you just fill it until it reaches the level of the bottom of the hole and begins to run out.) NOTE: the car must be in a level position when you do this or you will get an incorrect reading. For most DIY folks, this is somewhat daunting, as you must raise the car up on "all fours" and high enough to be able to crawl under and check it. Of course a lift (or a pit) makes it much easier, but it can be done with jack stands too.

If that happened to me then i wouldve definitely walked to the nearest store to get the right wrench no matter how long it took! cause there is no way id have the patience or motivation to raise the car on all four with the tint hydro jack i have ...

Hard luck!

Haha, luckily I didn't need to drive it yesterday so I left it on the stands after doing everything else. I looked again through all my tools and no allen/hex that will fit it, so I may be walking somewhere.

Thats why they come with steel pit screens/guards that you are supposed to place over the open area when driving the car in and then remove it but unfortunately thats just too much work for some ...
