2008 G35x - iPhone 4S /USB connectivity
Hey guys,
My first post, so please go easy on me. I tried searching but didn't have any luck so apologies if this has been covered and I am just blind and not seeing it.
Just bought a 2008 X with 61,000 KMS for 20K here in Toronto. Awesome car. Have had it for a week now and love it! Came with brand new tires and front and rear brakes so I am worry free, hopefully, for the next little while. The car doesn't have the Nav system + HDD so am hooking up my work iPhone 4S with the propitiatory cable.
First issue, it doesn't charge which I knew about. Second issue is that I'd rather not use my work phone and wanted to know if there was a USB adapter available for that cable where I could plug in a thumb drive which has all my songs?
Those are the only two things I can think of, if there's a better solution than that which I am not seeing, please let me know.
Thanks,
Frank

so you have the proprietary cable which allows the headunit to control the ipod?
i recommend getting an 'ipod classic' for the car. rip all your songs in a lossless format, and (outside of occasional syncing) leave it in the car. the infiniti/nissan cable will charge the 'ipod classic' model (but only this model), and the storage space (160GB) should be plenty.

for the charging issue you can get an sosche or i thnk that's how you spell it adapter that will convert the voltage necessary for charging, as for the play back that's weird i know that my cable works with an iphone 4s
@G35xdriver -- yes that was going to be my last option - get an older iPod and dump all songs there.
@maizer89: there is no issue with playback. I would rather not use this phone - was wondering if i could use a usb thumb drive.
@ johnyzee - thank you! I'll check that thread out.

I ended up buying an extension cable and the adapter (not the Scoshe one) from eBay. It said that it would support charging through the extension cable, so I thought I would give it a try...I believe it was like $4 and another $4 for shipping, so if it didn't work, it wouldn't be a total loss (the adapter was a little more, I think around $15 with shipping).
I plugged the adapter into the stock cable, then the extension cable into that. It works fine...no whine, my iPhone4 charges just fine and I can access the controls through the stock stereo system. I have a 2008 Journey with nav, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
