So today I was leaving the grocery store and everything seemed fine. I turned the car on and pulled away heading home and all over a sudden I hear a pop and suddenly the navigation goes blank as well as the gauge cluster also the radio wouldn't turn on along with the a/c. The dome lights worked fine but all else was dead. I pulled over in the parking lot and turn the car off to try and restart.
The brake went hard and I couldn't push down to get it to crank while holding the start button. I saw the no key light on as well and put the fob into the slot to see if it would help but nothing happened. After about 10 mins the car turned on and it seemed fine but 2 mins down the road the same thing happened again... This time I kept driving and it all turned back on within 10 seconds.
Has anyone had this issue or can anyone suggest what I should try before I take it to the mechanic or dealer. I am worried this is going to be a big hit to my wallet. Any information and help is appreciated.

Does the car start?

 

Initially it didn't do anything. It started back up and I got it home and I figured I would disconnect the battery in hopes of the computer restarting. I reconnected and then waited 30 mins and turned it on to see if it would be different and this time in park it did the same thing it did when I cranked it up. It does turn on but then suddenly the navigation and all dies but the car will still stay on. If i turn it off then the brake gets hard and it says no key on the center console.

 

Cant say what wrong and i think your the 1st one. You might want to go to the dealers for this one. But i do want to know whats wrong so ill keep checking into this one.

 

Given the number of systems affected when it acts up, I'd suspect some "intelligence" failure; BCM maybe??

 

Could you elaborate a little on the BCM and "intellegence". I'm not very familiar with that.

The BCM is a "body control module". It's sort of a dedicated intelligent controller for numerous lesser functions of the car that are not handled by the main ECU.

How many miles you have on the car? Sounds like a lemon. Get the stealership to take a look at it and dont take all their BS about reproducing the problem. It happened to you twice. Dont take no for an answer.

 

Blown fuse?

 

I'm not sure this is a lemon. It happened twice in a 1 hour period.

Which fuse would you think is blown?

 

Guys, ...blown fuses don't usually resurrect themselves and work again later, only to fail and resurrect yet again.

Lol...true that...I think the BCM is out just like vqsmile said...it will be a costly repair but you might be under warranty as long it was 4 years/60k miles.

If you are out of warranty, and if you do service regularly at the dealership, they might actually cover this under customer goodwill....

 

I seem to remember a thread some time ago where strange things were happening, the BCM was suspect, and yet it turned out to be a result of some compromised wiring (or something like that) after a third party install of aftermarket electronics, so it's it's really not for certain that it's the BCM by any means. It's just a good suspect.
