Wireless backup camera (License plate light)

I decided to go with a wireless camera that replaces one of the license plate lights so it looks as factory as possible I have a 07 G35S with bose, but no NAV. Screen needed to be hacked to work while in motion and you need to press AUX to view image.

Total cost was $35 for the camera / wireless transmitter & receiver and $2 for a cigarette lighter phone charger.

Installation was simple, remove one of the license plate lights. And screw the light bulb into the new camera. Feed the wires through a hole behind the license plate. The power for the camera and transmitter comes from the reverse light bulb wire (orange)

Then I took apart the phone charger, removed the guts since it outputs 5V and wireless receiver needs 12V. Solder, tape, and put back together. In the arm rest, just plug the RCA connector from receiver and plug the phone charger into the car power outlet.

Results. Overall, pretty please with the result aside from the top couple of millimeters of the image is blocked by the bumper

Very cool. Didn't know they made a camera that would fit our plate light module. Also like the display with the lines--does it look pretty decent at night too?

I got it off ebay, search for item # 160883448891.
They also make a CCD version, but more expensive.

Looks great....
Its there any way to no use power from the center console and tap it into something different, there is too little room in the center console to be taken for the adapter....

Is the Bose amp in the trunk? I would tap off that power lead. If there isn't a good lead in the trunk I would just get some power wire and run it back there.

If you want to go through the trouble of running a wire from trunk to center console, you might as well just run a long RCA cable. The only reason i needed the phone charger was to power the wireless receiver. The wireless transmitter and camera are already powered by reverse light wire in the trunk.

No video will show as soon as you move the car. You need to do the video bypass mod--search google because the topic is banned on this forum.

WORD!!! It's the only reason I haven't done this yet. And their are modules available but some of them are $$$ and need a lot of work to install also. ...kicking myself for not ordering the tech package with my G35!

The bypass mod took less than 30 mins. It really not that difficult. For non-nav, just cut 2 wires and ground one.
