Check Engine Light

I have a 2007 G35x and I noticed my check engine light came on. When I was driving home I noticed the power steering was really whinning and checked to find the fluid was low.

I know there must be a leak and will be searching for it, but my question is would the low steering fluid trip the check engine light?

I'm taking it to the dealer but if the low fluid level could check the light then I might just reset it myself and look for the leak rather then pay the diag fee from the dealer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you!

I/m not away of a CEL caused by low PS fluid, but if I were you, I would:

1) Definitely fill the PS reservoir and look for any obvious leaks yourself.

2) Try and find a way to get the check engine code read for free (many parts and/or independent repair shops have this service) and see what it says before you even think about taking it to a dealership. By all means though, DO NOT erase/reset the codes before you have read and recorded them. If you do, you're losing potentially valuable info on what may turn out to be an intermittent problem.

3) Depending on the code, decide whether a trip tot he dealer is required.

Plenty of readers online which could save you money on future code readings...
