I wasn't being a wise guy either. I understand the importance of respect towards officers as a means to minimize the collateral damage. The clear license plate cover incident caught me completely off guard and my response was more of a "that's it?" type of response. It was Irvine CA, so anyone that lives in these parts knows how tough the cops are in that area. There was backup on me and everything....I thought I was mistakenly involved in a homicide, then the very young female cop (18?) said "Sir, do you know that you have an illegal obstruction over your license plate?" (the ensuing "it's a clear plastic cover" was not what she wanted to hear). It didn't help that I was taking a short cut through an office park at 8:00pm trying to avoid traffic on the 55.
