-steering wheel trim paint rubbing off (ITB12-050)

and was told that I would have to pay out of pocket to do it. $850+ for new window trim, the rubber that is melting/sticking. Anyone know a cheaper way to fix this? I'm getting a lot of wind noise and I believe its from that... I've only found one thread about it and that guy had it done via warranty.
Then another $180 to replace steering wheel molding.

any DIYselfers here that can help me with the window trim/steering wheel? thanks.
I know there is DIY info here for the stering wheel bezel (it's also covered in the ITB for it), but I can't recall one specifically for that belt molding. Have you considered just downloading the FSM for free at Infinitihelp.com and reading up on the tasks yourself?

My guess is that most of that cost is undoubtedly labor.

thanks vqsmile. I'll look into downloading that.

yup I think $90 for the part and $100 for labor. I've seen the parts on InfinitiPartsUSA.com for like $55 each, but that's still overly priced.

The last time i got a quote at the dealer (three months ago) for the steering wheel bezel, the service advisor would charge 0.3 of an hour - $40 labour and the part was more questionable since i told him the only part that should be replaced in the first place was just the bezel, worth no more than $25 i think.

^which dealership did you go to?

There is 3-4 Infiniti dealerships in Houston and the only one I went to was Swell... Maybe I need to try the other ones, which may be a little better on price and probably do it out of good will.

Should have mentioned i'm located in Vancouver BC, Canada.

I know the Service Advisor gave me that quote because he knows how often people come by because of the peeling and want to get it replaced.

I'd say your best bet is just to call around first and as them for quotes. Some dealers are clueless and that you'd have to let them know its about ITB12-050. And being that it's a common problem, it COULD help a little in pricing however it all depends on the dealers.
