G35X - water damage from storm

I've run across a very good deal ($15k, 45k miles) on 2008 G35X w/ Premium Package but have concerns about it being in a rain storm in October 2012, accumulating approximately 4-5" of water inside. The dealer selling it has replaced the front power seats and carpeting and says it looks and runs like new.

Because I don't know much about Infiniti's, I was hoping some knowledgeable folks here could provide some opinions on whether or not to consider purchasing a car that has this kind of damage.

My gut tells me to avoid, but my head tells me that if there was a major problem it should have presented itself by now (4-5 months later)

Thanks!

Stay far away. Our cars have plenty of electronics in them and don't make friends with water very well. Electrical gremlins sometimes take time to show themselves. Metal connectors take time to fully corrode and cause shorts. Not worth the headache.

Golden rule #1. Don't believe anything coming out of a car dealers mouth.

P.s. what does carfax and auto check say about this car? Is it titled as a flood car? If so infiniti will den any warranty work to the car. Was this flooded in sandy?

No one says you have to pay the asking price either. What if you'd offer him $13,000? That's 6-7 grand worth of money (extra that you'd have in pocket) that you'd normally have spent just to OBTAIN the car in the first place. Quite honestly, I'd probably think about the purchase, but not for $15,000.

Haven't checked the carfax yet - just got the scoop from the owner about the rain damage. If I were to seriously consider purchasing, I'd definitely review the full report. It's not a flood car. The previous owner just left the sunroof open all night during a storm. I think it's currently out of warranty anyway, but good point!

Good point! The price tag really stood out to me, which is why I'm coming here for expert advice!

This forum is awesome. And my next sentence is not, in any way, taking away from the amount of knowledge here. But, there are very few EXPERTS here (I'm certainly not one). Just a lot of opinions haha. But hey, good luck whatever you decide. If it would be me, I'd probably snag the car up (again, just not for the asking price right now!) if you're looking to keep it for a long time. If you are probably going to own it for only a short time (1-2 years), I'd probably stay far away, because telling someone about the water damage will do exactly what it's doing to you as the potential consumer--cause major concern (not to mention the obvious reduction in value of the car itself, whether warranted or not).

Every seller on every planet will tell you it RUNS LIKE NEW until you buy it and then they will tell you...DUHHHH it is 5yrs old and with 50,000 miles plus USED/FLOODED what did you expect. Have fun on this epic, rolling time bomb of an electrical nightmare.

For $15-$17k you should be able to find an older model with low mileage in excellent condition. Don't drop your money on a flooded ride.

I disagree that he'll be able to find one with lower mileage for that price range. That is, unless you have a seller who is just merely looking to unload the car quickly...These cars haven't depreciated that much yet . I guess it depends on your definition of "lower mileage" too. I wouldn't consider 90k lower mileage, but maybe others do.

^ he said an older model and he is quite right saying that but around the same mileage id say, I too suggest for the OP to avoid a flooded car given the amount of electronics in this car

Blue Book on an 03 with 50k miles is about $17k, they are out there, they just take some digging to find them.

Even though that is a good price for that model car but i would run away from that car. Other deals will come up if you can wait. The 07-08 are better G's. But try to look for another G. These are great cars and fun to drive.
