Audio/Navigation Broken, how to replace?

I have an Infiniti G35x 2007. The Navigation/Audio unit began to freeze up, CD stopped working, and then on one cold day in Minnesota, the whole thing died and only displays the Infiniti logo. The heat is stuck on max heat - lovely. I had dealer try to disconnect/reconnect battery but that didn't help. They would like $800 to replace the Audio/Nav unit. Is there anything lower cost I can do? Can anybody actually fix the thing instead of replacing whole? Dealer has not told me what the issue is, they say they just replace it. I am out of warranty coverage.

Would a used replacement unit from ebay works? plug-n-play?

If you have a memory card in the cf card slot, remove it and try again. Sometimes bad memory will cause everything to freeze up

Is the climate control integrated into the NAV system? If it's not, and it started acting up at the same time as the NAV, then I'd be looking at the next 'higher up' controller that is common to them both. (would that be the BCM ? )

this happened to me 2 days ago. one morning going to work, it worked just fine... hvac system and radio was working smoothly.. on my way home it is stuck on infiniti initialize screen. hvac and stereo is dead; no response from any buttons either. heat stuck on max.

anyone get a resolution to this issue? it may be coincidence but this happened when NJ temp shot down to 20-30's. unfortunately even after car warms up, its still dead.
