Problems with new g35x

Hello everyone, I just purchased a 2007 Infiniti G35x Sedan with 76,300 miles on it literally a week ago from today. First off, I would like to say i LOVE the car, the power and handle is perfect. Anyway, since i purchased the car, i noticed a couple problems. One problem is that when I am breaking from high speeds, for example 50 mph, the car lightly shakes. I know for a fact that I have bad tires, probably around 20% thread left, and I am going to change them soon. Could my tires be causing the problem or could it be my brake rotors? If it is my brake rotors should i get them completely changed or is there another method? Also, when i turn on the heat, the right vent to the driver side does not blow any air, however, all the other vents work. At first i thought i had to fix the settings but i have tried everything and nothing gets it to work. Is this an expensive fix? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Edit: Also forgot to include that when i break, my car steering wheel sometimes turns to the right on its own. Is this an issue with the alignment? If I do not get this fixed immediately, will it cause more issues?

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the purchase of a car that you will probably enjoy for a long time.

I'm not a mechanic, but with my experience with cars, it sounds as if you may have a few relatively minor problems. Number one, I'd change the tires when you have the money, because bad tires are bad news for everything from safety to handling to proper driving manners. Usually 'shaking' when braking, especially a feel of such in the steering wheel, is indicative of warped brake rotors. Quite frankly, you can have them 'cut' if they've never been done before, but since the car is new to you and since I'd assume you want to establish a baseline for future maintenance, I would probably just replace the rotors. They aren't going to be extremely expensive anyways. Unfortunately, you'll want to have your brake pads replaced at the same time.

As far as the vehicle 'pulling' to one side or the other, that very well may be the alignment, but quite frankly, it could be your bad tires, or more seriously, a problem with your brakes as well (probably not that, but could be...).

It sounds like you need to take the car to a reputable garage which runs their business with integrity. You should be out the door with no major issues if you indeed only have the issues you're mentioning. Tires (if you retain stock wheels) will not be all that expensive either. Good luck and again, welcome!

Hey Matt, i really appreciate the reply, you helped me a lot. When I break, my steering wheel does not shake, could this mean that just my back rotors are warped? Do you still recommend me getting all of my rotors and pads changed? Since im currently a college student, i only work part time, so i do not have much money to work with. In your opinion whats more important? Getting my tires/alignment fixed or getting the rotors and pads changed? Also, if I do not immediately get my rotors and pads changed, could it cause other major issues? Thanks again for the help.

Getting new tires and an alignment are probably more important that whatever brake issue you are having--which to me, still sounds like rotors, but again, I'm not a mechanic. An alignment is absolutely critical when getting new tires because otherwise you will prematurely wear your tires...or cause uneven wear at the very least.

Most tire shops are 'full service' shops, so you could always have them check the brakes (rotors/pads/calipers) at the time you put the new tires on. That way, even if you don't have the $$ to fix the brakes, you would still know what the problem is and ensure it's nothing too serious (which is probably isn't). To my knowledge, driving on warped/warn rotors will not cause anything else to wear prematurely, but it certainly isn't the safest thing to do as I'd imagine it would affect brake performance overall AND it CERTAINLY isn't comfortable, as who wants to drive a car that shakes when you brake? haha

I fully understand the money pinch, so you gotta do what you gotta do. Again, I'd recommend tires/alignment and then have them check the brakes. Go from there....As far as the vent HVAC problem, I have no clue what that could be. I'd suggest doing a search on the forum here to see if anyone has had similar problems. This forum has a plethora of information! Best of luck.

braking issues sounds like a warped rotor...you can just get them turned as long as they have enough thickness on them rather than buying a whole new setup if you want to delay it a bit...cheap to get them turned.

My car now shakes (wheel and entire car when i brake from 60+). One of the front rotors is a little warped not smooth as i just replaced my rear brakes

When you brake if your steering wheel pulls to the one side more than the other it could be a bad brake lines. I would replace all 4 rotors with blanks, get some stop tech street pads, motul brake fluid, stainless steel brake lines and 4 set of tires. Oh and get use to buying tires and brakes along with lots of gas.

Also how much does getting the brake lines changed to steel and the brake fluid cost? Sorry for piling on the questions im just trying to learn

I just paid about $100 each for rear slotted rotors. Pads were about $75. Fronts are more ovbisouly. If you want you can take the calipers off and paint them..unless you want a aftermarket brake system that will cost a lot.

Fluid is like 4.50 a bottle as i just bought 2 bottles 2 days ago.

Thats not bad at all. Could i buy regular rotors and put some brembo pads on them? What brand rotors did you buy? And how do you like them?

Stoptech rotors. http://www.stoptech.com/products/rotors.

Only had they about 150 miles so far but so far so good. I am going to replace the fronts come summer. Then i think i will really notice the difference. Now it seems like stopping power is the same which i expected. When i change fronts i think that will change
