Engine "tick" - need help. Video
I recently noticed an engine "ticking" sound on my 08 G35.
this is only noticeable from outside the car, so it isn't very loud. It does seem related to engine RPM.
Seems unrelated to engine temp.
This could be normal, i've just never noticed it until a month or 2 ago.
If anyone feels like listening the video/audio is here:
Seems to be coming from front left side of engine (when looking at the engine from the front of the car).
Any help appreciated. I would bring it to the dealer, but they want $130 just to listen to it.
thanks!

The frequency of it is what's puzzling to me. For it to be related to engine rpm, but at such an apparently slower repetition cycle is odd. If it were at 2 or 3 times that frequency, I'd wonder about an exhaust manifold leak, or possible a loose spark plug, since it almost sounds like a tiny shot of compressed air. All the individual accessory pulley wheels turn over at a greater frequency that that as well, so then I wondered if the fan belt has a bump or defect that only makes noise once every pass around. Seems like any vacuum valve or whatever would also cycle quicker than that.

You don't have a local mechanic? If you don't you need to find one. Screw the dealership and their overpriced services
Two things in my mind. AC compressor/pulley or your belt. Try this let someone turn your AC on and off while your in the engine bay (listening) If you hear a quick squeak then it's the AC compressor/pulley. (There's a thread here ill find it and post it later )

I'll try to advance the belt by hand and see/feel if i there is anything abnormal.
check this one out. ( https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...ise-video.html) the clutch assembly goes bad and it actually girnd to each other.
Experiencing the same noise
Hey Jason, I'm experiencing the same noise on my 08 G35X. I have approx 50k miles. I was thinking about taking it to the dealer, but I don't feel like paying the diagnostic fee either. Let me know if you make any progress.. Thx for posting.
I just listened again, and after considering something related in another thread, I'm now also wondering if it could be a solenoid associated with the variable valve timing.
I would think a VVT solenoid would be a much higher frequency
