That is interesting. Mine came from a G37S coupe and it has the correct tire size, and fits pretty well in the spare tire well.

What car did your spare come from?

Mine also came from a 37s coupe and fit nicely in the trunk of my 08X sedan.

Then he's FOS!

The obsurdity of all this is that the tire size of the V36 Sport sedans and coupes has never changed!! The Sport sedans have ALWAYS run a 225/50-18, 245/45-18 combo F/R, and the coupes have ALWAYS run a 225/45-19, 245/40-19 F/R combo. The overall diameters are nearly identical between the two. According to spec sheets for the different models (http://infinitihelp.com/models/index.php), there were two different sizes compact spares offered for the sedans, depending on whether or not they had the Sport brakes. The 2 sizes listed are a 145/70R18 (for Sport brake models) and 145/80R17 (for non-Sport brake models), but if you do the math, their overall diameters are virtually identical (+/- just a few millimeters), so either should fit in the trunk well.

I think the bottom line is that the tire on your spare rim has been changed at some point. Someone probably rode the poor thing to death and then got the cheapest replacement they could find for it.

In any case:

155/80-18 = 27.8" diameter (yours)
vs.
145/70-18 = 26.0" diameter (stock)

...that's almost 2 inches taller there's no wonder it wouldn't fit.

Anyone reading this thread and looking for the correct info should be assured that any 18" compact spare with it's original tire size (145/70-18) WILL fit in the trunk, and WILL clear the Akebono brakes.

I'd be sure to get the correct tire ASAP, being so far out w/ diameter is sure to cause all kinds of mixed signals going to your computer, and not a very safe drive, even for a short stretch.
