Transmission Flush $199 too cheap?

Hello all,

I was wondering if any of you think that a transmission flush for $199 at an Infiniti dealer is too cheap? I'm a little wary that they aren't going to use Matic S fluid, and use some generic type fluid instead. They will flush out all the old fluid and replace it with new fluid.

Here is the coupon:

What do you guys think? Is it legitimate or not? Anyone have experience with this dealer?

I would go with a drain and refill, avoid the flush (there are numerous posts on the pros and cons).

This also uses less fluid and typically runs about $50 less.

If it's at an Infiniti dealer, then it's probably safe to assume they'll use the correct fluids. The price is probably for a drain and fill though. Last few times I've brought an Auto (Armada & FX35) in for fluid change, both Infiniti and Nissan dealers have been recommending against flushes.

Flushes are just money makers for auto shops. Thereis no need for them just drain and refill.

I called them and they said it was a flush....the coupon itself even says specifically that all 14 quarts of fluid are exchanged.

I know flushes aren't good, but if a dealer can do a flush for that cheap, I wouldn't mind taking the risk. If they end up damaging the transmission, they should replace it free of charge.

I am just wondering if $199 is too cheap for a flush.

14 quarts of Matic S already costs around $112 ($8 per quart,) so I'm just concerned if they're actually doing a drain and fill or an actual flush. The other possibility is they use some generic transmission fluid instead of Matic S.

That price is about what I would expect for a "flush" or "drain and fill" at a dealership based upon my experiences.

As far as why it's so cheap is that it's very likely they are NOT using Matic S fluid. You are going to have to ask them to use the recommended Nissan fluid. This will raise the cost of the flush.

As far as them damaging the transmission due to the flush and forcing them to replace it, you are going to have long battle with that. Especially if the first thing they see is that you are not using the Nissan recommended transmission fluid. You will be fighting a long battle that will be hard to win.

With all that said, I would simply call the dealer and have them tell you exactly what their "flush" consists of. Also ask if they have any disclaimer that essentially removes them of liability if your transmission has issues after the flush has been done.

I've been in the process of getting all my fluids up to spec and the transmission is last on my list. I will be getting a "drain and fill"...

Note that the Matic-S and J fluid does not cost them nearly what you'd pay as a consumer. I would call and confirm what they are doing for $199. I believe the book labor on a flush is an hour, so $200 may be correct. They will tell you the labor and materials cost if you ask.

That is an amazing price. Typically dealers charge close to that for a simple 4-qt drain and refill. A 14 qt flush would normally cost $350 to $500 at a dealer. The coupon is clear that it's a 14-qt replacement with synthetic fluid. Just make sure the S-matic is being used. Also, the other posters are right, there are safety questions about the flush - a TSB was issued advising against a flush (I can't find it but someone posted it responding to this discussion one time). I did it on my '08 G35X at 4-years with no problems. I know there are different types of machines some safer than others.

it does state synthetic, also prices may vary on certain models, fluid disposal charges.the easiest thing to do is call their service manager and speak with them.

Just adding on to the thread.

When I did a flush a month ago, it was $240 at the dealer with J-Matic fluid.

$500 is way too much to pay.

200-250 is about what I'd expect around here for a flush.

~$150 for a drain and refill. I have had the drain and refill done 3x already, so $150 is consistent across the three cities I lived in during the time the work was done.

Whether u should do a flush or not depends on how many miles u have, and how badly u abuse ur tyranny... And 200 is on par with other dealers.

As for assuming ur dealer will use genuine fluids... Don't bet on that. Mine used the fluid made by the same manufacturer that bottles the oem Nissan fluid... Except it's called something else and comes in big 50 gallon metal drums to the dealership. Scared me at first till I read the specs on it and where it was made, so I was fortunate not to have any issues at all.... Others on this forum have had their stupid stealer use non infiniti/Nissan fluid and screwed their transmissions up.... Totally not worth it.

Don't assume anything... ASK what they use and howtthey perform the flush

I've only done Drain+refills on my car. Honestly, it's easier than the oil change, so i do them both at the same time.

Remove drain plug, 4 quarts comes out. Reinstall plug, lower car and pour 4 quarts back in to dipstick tube with a funnel.

I get 4 quarts for about $50, and have done this 4 times so far. I'm due for #5 soon as i do it every 25K

That's borderline bad advice. Basically, it is not a sure thing that you will get 4 quarts out of it; sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less. It just really varies for a number of reasons. If someone were to follow your advice here, after a few changes, they could potentially end up with levels far enough out to cause potential wear/damage.

Since you should be neither underfilling, nor overfilling the tranny, you should instead be measuring what you removed once it has cooled to room temp, then replace just that amount from your room temp tranny fluid bottles. There is also a procedure in the service manual about how to properly check tranny fluid level.
