Did it sound like this?

'Intake Valve Timing Control Performance Bank 1"

After reading the description, I don't see why that code would pertain to a faulty chain tensioner. Who knows, but I'm also not a mechanic. I will post up what they find when I get the car back.

It didn't mean to suggest that it was. That is the code most typically associated with the timing control solenoid that operates the variable valve timing. It can be ANOTHER source of ticking sounds on these motors as well.

There actually is a possible connection/interaction between the operation of that solenoid and timing chain tension in general. As its name suggests, the timing chain tensioner takes up any slack (i.e. it tensions) in the primary timing chain. Any activity of varying the advancement of the intake cam (which is directly driven by the main primary timing chain) can potentially create slack in that chain, so they are somewhat connected.

Bumping this. Just dropped the car off to have the dealer tech check the noise out. The Service manager agreed that he also heard this clicking\"Funny" noise between 1000 and 1400 rpm.

UPDATE: Got a call from the dealer. They were backed up all day but were able to recreate the noise with the tech in the car. Initial suspicion was the heat shields but they will take a closer look on Monday.

Dealer called back. The issue is not the gasket behind the timing chain cover. The noise is coming from a blown out cat. Getting it replaced under warranty.

Did the ticking noise get resolved after the CAT replacement?

Glad to hear you resolved the annoying ticking issue.

Other than the ticking, what symptoms did your car exhibit to tell you that you had a blown cat?
