Exclamation TIRES - quick tire question

Gentlemen,

It is bad to run the SAME SIZE: 245/45-18 on the rear but DIFFERENT brand/pattern???

Will this mess with anything, computer, etc? I do not want to replace both rears, no point...

The tire that puts down the power is BALD and the other side in the rear is like 50%.

I know I have limited slip because I have the S / Sport but I am assuming by the time the other side kicks in im already off the line and it doesn't really do too much good.

Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend this, but it will work. If you have some expendable cash buy the same brand of tire and have it shaved to 50%, you want tire sizes to be within 2/32".

Can you explain why you do not recommend it please? Also, right now the rear right is BALD/no tread, just noticed....so if I use another brand with a different tread design/pattern will it be okay...I guess to be clear, I am wanting to avoid replacing both rears and just the one that is a slick lol for now then in a few months, change both for matching when the right rear is bald....????

On a 2wd car, imo, would not hurt a thing....

Why/what makes it different than if you did it to an X/AWD?

different overall diameter of the tires (more than 2% i think?) will confuses the center diff and may increase wear and tear

if you're really trying to save up for a pair for the rear, why not check the craigslist and such for a used tire to throw on there. also call around to local tire shops, sometimes they have used ones you can throw on there.

You wan to make sure the two tires are the same size AND have similar tread depth or you run the risk of damaging the diff or throwing off the traction control. I think they need to be withing 2/32nds, and if the other tire is at 50% that one is at 5/32 and the new one will be 10/32.

Also, you may wan to figure out why one is bald, and the other is not, especially if you have the LSD, or you are going to end up in the same situation again. Was the tire OK when you bought the car, how many miles driven since then?
