Ok. I've had my '08 for about a month and I've been thru the massive manual and I cannot figure out what these are for. The small light is on some times and some times not. The two vents I have no idea either.

 

Microphone for hands free is the slotted thingy. The light is mood lighting for getting down.

 

Lol you are right about the first part, although that light is intended to help you read maps.

No way that is a map light, it is way too dim. The map lights are on either side of the microphones! If you insist on ruining the groove, that tiny LeD is "ambient" lighting. It is a cool white light that helps illuminate the controls of your Nav screen and various head units. Nick, ANY light is for gettin down.

That little light on top is is no way meant to increase visibility within the cabin. It is purely ambient lighting to add some warmth to the interior at night. Had a similar light in my 06 Maxima. Try to read with it and you can't see a thing. That's what the map lights are for

The asymmetry drove me nuts on my 08, so I bought and installed the 07 piece. I can attest that it both fits amd throws double the vaguely useless but neato ambient light.

The cooler mod is to get gt-r map light lenses. They look great, especially with my black headliner / console, and led map light bulbs.
