Cause for the dreaded P0011/P0021 codes that everyone is curious about

I will check my oil and top up if I need to. Thanks a lot for the reply! I will update and let you know if it fixed it. I have take off the IVT solenoids and cleaned them a while ago. But I didn't check if they work or check resistance or shorts or anything.. so I will do that next if topping up the oil doesn't keep the codes away

Now the P0014 and P0024 are exhaust valve timing codes. These codes normally pop up due to the exhaust retarders going bad. Those are the 2 big caps so to speak on the front timing cover with the sensors in them. There is an electromagnetic clutch on the back of this that works with the exhaust cam sprocket and we do replace these on a sort of regular basis also. Parts are a little costly, but not as labor intensive as the rear timing cover gaskets. Once they are replaced, A Consult 3 scanner will need to be hooked up and an exhaust valve timing relearn procedure will need to be performed which has to be done with the car running at 3k rpms. Hope this provides a little more insight to these crazy codes.

Not at all, the rear timing cover repair is for intake valve timing codes only. You have an exhaust valve timing code which should be the bank 2 exhaust retarder. This part can actually be changed in about 30 minutes, but the relearn procedure that I told you about will still need to be performed after the repairs.

I appreciate the info and advice. I can change out sensors and do regular maintenance, but I'm pretty lost on engine repair.

I do not have a link right off hand but I do have the part numbers for the exhaust retarder that you need. 13040-JK22B (B2 exhaust retarder assy.$569.50) and the gasket part number is 23797-JA10B(retarder gasket $3.87) The gaskets for the P0011/P0021 codes unfortunately are not available to buy individually. You will have to purchase the entire rear cover in order to get these gaskets at this time.

omg thank you haha, I been dealing with the P0011 code forever. Do you know if it harms the engine if I don't replace it? Because I been driving for around 5 month and it hasn't came back, I just avoid driving at 1.9k-2k revvs cause it seems like that's when it occurs.

So I talked with a infiniti Mechanic and you can get just the gasket. The parts number for the gasket is either 13530-JK20B or 13533-JK21A. Not sure which one is which because I asked him for the parts number for the gasket and the rear cover. I'll keep it posted I just sent him another email asking which one is which.

13533-JK21A is a gasket
