Accidental mis-shift (over rev)
Hello all! I recently purchased a used 2008 G35S sedan (6MT), and absolutely love it. I was going about 60-65 ish or so the other day in 5th gear and wanted to overtake a car so I downshifted, but instead of putting it in 4th gear, I accidentally put it in 2nd. Obviously the engine revved up extremely high, so I immediately shifted back to 5th. It was in 2nd for only a second, but my question is...should I get it checked out? Could I have caused serious damage to the engine in that one second of 2nd gear? I am a concerned...I know 2nd gear redlines at about 60mph so I know my rpms must have been slightly above the 7500.
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you don't hear any weird clicking sound, no check engine light, maybe you are lucky and didn't cause any damage, no bent valve. Maybe when that happened, the engine was right at around the limit and the rev limiter kicked in so you wasn't able to rev any higher
just kick an eye on it, see if it burns any oil, any clicking noise ...

Thanks stockae92. I'm hoping I got lucky...this actually happened a few weeks ago and so far the car seems fine...no clicking or check engine light but thanks for the tip...I'll keep an eye out for burning oil! As far the clicking goes...do you know what it would sound like and where it would be coming from? Thanks!
