Did the dealership get one over on me?
Did the dealership get one over on me?
So i took my car in to resolve a frozen brake issue yesterday on my rear wheel. They stated the caliper was indeed frozen shut and needed replacement and would be covered under my elite extended warranty. I asked if the new pads and rotor would also be covered since the damaged caliper caused them to go bad and they said no. I ended up paying out of pocket for rear pads and rotors to the tune of $520+.
Should the rotor and pads been covered? I know normally it is not since they are wear and tear items, but in the case a malfunctioning caliper caused the damage.
Thoughts?

No I preferred to do both rears so that there was symmetry and I didn't have one side with brand new hardware and the other side with old hardware.
2 x Rear Rotors
2 x New Pads
2 x New Clips (apparently the ones I had were damaged/missing)
and Labor
$520
I was willing to pay half to complete one side but the side with the damaged caliper I'm thinking should have been covered.

Well I expected to overpay for parts and labor considering its a dealership. I just wonder if they should have covered pads and rotor for the side with damaged caliper which was covered.
Possibly depends on the dealership. I had pads and rotors covered when my caliper seized, but only for the one side.

My local dealership said 66$ brake pad each side, 115$ each brake rotor one side. ~360 for parts and 90$ an hour for labor puts us at 540$. You aren't getting any discount with your warrantee is what I'm seeing.
he's in NY.. major city dealer labor prices are $120 to $160/hr..
Technically I don't think the rotors and pads would be covered under warranty even though the caliper caused the issue since they are "wear" items. Typically I would think the stealership to be nice enough to replace though..
Assuming a non akebono setup the rear rotors should be about $100 for two and $40 for pads (pricing for centric rotors and pads). If they were replacing the caliper it shouldn't have taken more than 15 min to replace the rotor and pads at the same time. So you basically paid near $400 for the labor of replacing one corner.
