New to me 2007 Base Maintenance Advice

Just about a cheap 2007 G35 base auto with 42k miles on it. Bought from ebay and drove from Houston to Atlanta last weekend. Trying to figure out what maintenance to do since the mileage is low but it's 7 years old. Had to replace the front brakes and a TPMS but otherwise it seems in good shape.

So far I've:
Drained/filled transmission fluid
Changed diff fluid
Changed oil
Replaced air/cabin filters
Ordered a serpentine belt

Anything else I should consider doing due to age? The Infiniti dealer here gave me a service print out that said it had a 30k service in 2010 but didn't list specifically if a Schedule 1 or Premium service. It also said it had a rear brake service but I guess I need to check out the rear pads.

You might consider replacing coolant based on the age if it was not done at 30,000

I am assuming that it's a Infiniti/Nissan fluid only?

Lesson one...never assume anything, you'll live longer! The only area where you must use Nissan fluid is in your 5-AT! What you missed was radiator/brake and power steering fluid, those should be drained/filled every 30K miles!

Got it. Took to dealer this morning for the throttle TSB and they said the upper radiator hose needed replacing (leaking) although I can't see it. Guess I'll replace myself and drain the coolant as well.

I did use the Nissan fluid for the auto drain/fill. Will just get a good quality antifreeze for the radiator drain/fill.

Thanks.

Well, car has a strange history on Carfax. Was a renal car so it had 25k in the first year. Second owner had four years and only 10k and then the last owner only did 7k in two years. Unfortunately, the last person had it repossessed. The interior looks new except for steering wheel and the areas around the window controls - still debating what to do with that.

The dealer also said that the belt looked stretched and offered to change for $220. I already had the $24 belt on the way.

My best advice is to stay away from the stealership! I occasionally buy parts from Infiniti or Nissan but never let them service my coupe. Doing the radiator drain&fill, be patient you'll need to get 100% of the air out of the system or you'll over heat. Might take 30 minutes but it needs to be done right, even the good mechanics shake their heads. Find an independent Nissan trained mechanic for the work you don't want to do yourself. Good Luck and enjoy the ride...Gary

As far as the steering wheel and window controls, it sounds like it is the cheap rubber wearing off which is a known problem. I have read you can buy replacement panels on eBay or one other person on this forum simply sanded and painted. Supposedly the window control panel is easy to remove. The steering wheel has to actually be removed to fix. Unfortunately for me my window control panels are pristine but the steering wheel is not. You might search the forum to find the thread. Hope this helps. I have only had my g35 for a few months but love it hope you enjoy yours.

Also consider changing brake fluid and steering fluid as well.

Got the brake fluid, coolant (had to change the upper radiator hose), radiator cap, PCV, and serpentine belt replaced today. Should be good for a few miles now.

Why did you replace the PCV valve, not sure what they cost but that was a waste of your $$! When you remove the valve shake it, if it rattles it's working. If not run a little carb cleaner down both ends and shake it until it rattles and blow the cleaner out. Never any reason to replace these valves when they can be cleaned. Radiator cap? Was it not holding pressure or leaking? You're replacing parts for no reason!

PCV was $5. It was sticky when I shook it. Could have cleaned it but for $5 it was cheap.

The radiator cap must have never been touched when I took it off to drain coolant/fix hose. The smaller rubber ring seemed pretty stiff and had some grit/dirt on it. Didn't want to take a chance for $12.
