Any clue what this piece is (was)? #picture included

Does anyone know what this is...

The other side is on the and it looks like it is its own separate piece.

Anyways, can this piece be purchased.... I dunno it seems like it would be a cheap fix.

In this pic, the right side of it is the back window and the left is going towards the front window.

This is the drivers side. Passenger side is still in tact (with a small line where it looks divided).

Let me know. Thanks.

_Michael

[ 3 ] BODY HARDWARE / ROOF / EXTERIOR TRIM / Drip molding clip
Part Number: 73858JK05A

drip molding clip Left

Mike, I'm sorry to say that I think it's actually [3] in that illustration (73855-JK00A). If you look closely, you can see a little bulge at the very tip of the right end, which is probably the part that broke off of yours. If I'm not mistaken, the part you noted is just the clip that holds it down into the channel. I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear; they're stupid expensive! But just in case I'm wrong, you should definitively verify it before you go ordering it.

Maybe you can source one used from a wrecker.

Yeah VQ you are right.

This is from Infinitiparts.com:

That part is a drip rail molding. The part number for the right hand side is 73854-JK00A and sells for $162.25.

Needless to say, I will not be purchasing that piece.

I wonder if there is a knockoff way to fix this. I have no problem epoxying something to my car.

Any thoughts?

I say to save money, try the junk yard. If you want a better quote, call OC Infiniti

Good idea. I will definitely try the local dismantlers.

I also found this part online, I imagine with some customization I can get it to look similar, even if I have to epoxy it to the car, I don't care. Sure ain't gonna spend $160.

I would certainly go the salvage parts route before I even considered epoxy.

To clarify, I mean epoxy the plastic end piece to where it disconnects from the moulding.

That is what I would do with the new end piece even from a salvage yard.

You do realize that that whole piece just snap out (and back in), right? If you got another one, you'd be better off just leaving it intact and replacing the whole thing. I watched the guy who replaced my windshield do it once; it's no big deal at all.

Ah I see what you are saying. Yeah if I can get the whole piece at a good price I will just replace it.

I was saying that if I can find just the end piece then I will glue it on.

I'm currently checking the wrecking yards to see if I can find one.

Get a row of staples and paint it black.

Haha I know right.

Well anyways I ended up going to a wrecking yard and they had this part in there.

They charged me $30 for the whole piece (including the entire weatherstrip) but the strip itself was in worse shape than my current one so I just ended up popping off the clip and putting a small amount of window sealant underneath the piece (to level it out with the current weatherstrip on the roof) and put a small amount of epoxy between the strip and the new piece.

It fits well, matches nicely and with the epoxy I would imagine it will stay permanent.

My other side was already broken as well and was just sitting loose in the seam up top so I did the same sealant/epoxy on that side too.

All is well again. Now on to other issues!
