How to diagnose drive line slop?

Hey All,

I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing is drive line slop and wanted to get some feedback. If I'm coasting anywhere from 10 to 25 mph and press on the gas, I feel a "thud" from the back of the car. At first I though it was the torque converter but it feels like it's coming from the rear diff. I don't beat on the car, but was wondering if the rear diff bushings are a more common wear and tear item (I currently have 57k miles). I've seen a few threads on here about people needing to swap them out. Car in question is a 2008 G35x sedan.

Thanks,

Lew

I felt that with my 05X and did the differential bushings as a result. It turned out to be the T case. You should have a redesigned one but I'm not positive.

Have you looked to see if there is a tell-tale rust colored stain on the rear subassembly from the bushing 'bleeding out'?

Also, it could be coming from any one of the driveshaft U-joints or its center bearing.

^ive had drive shaft U-joints go out on another car and VQ is right about it sounding similar to what you describe. Its usually a clicky sounding thud tho.

No fluid from the bushing anywhere. I'll have to check the u-joints.

No clicky sound as far as I can hear.
