07 G35 Whining noise coming from left front of engine

Hey guys! Love the forum btw, I'll be on here alot more now that I found this. So I had a quick question. I just got a g35 from a really good friend and it has this odd sounding noise coming from the front left side of the engine while you're looking from the front. I turned the wheel and it doesn't get louder, as well as the A/C max and completely off without change.. Any ideas?? The car has 127k miles on it and I'm hoping its not the timing chain!

I doubt it's your timing chain and if it was you'd hear like a slapping noise on startup until the oil pressure built up.

I'd say that's probably your power steering pump. Check the fluid level first to make sure it's not low/empty. Then maybe take your drivebelt off, start the car, ignore the codes/lights, and see if the noise is still there. Spin all the pulleys and listen for any weird noises or excessive play.

If noise is still there after you remove the drivebelt it's probably your water pump.

I am currently experiencing this issue s well, my mechanic thought it was my tire threads. i rotated the front tires to the back and i still hear the sound a low whining sound that increases with speed. One thought from my mechanic was it may be my hub, but I actually had a hub go bad in my 05 x and this doesn't feel any thing like it cus the car isn't pulling to either side. I will have the car looked at again to confirm if its the water pump or steering box as the previous poster stated.

His car wasn't moving does your car make that noise at idle? If you're getting a noise while the car is driving it can still be the hub, since the bearings can go bad.

I figured out what the issue was. I made about a 50 mile drive and pulled into a parking lot and the car completely died. It wouldn't start up again no matter what I tried. I attempted to jump the car multiple times and ended up getting it towed to my mechanic. I picked up an alternator and a new battery, swapped both of them out and it works like a dream. Anyone who has alternator issues and wants to do it yourself, I would not reccomend it. It was a real pain in the butt. But I'm glad I found the issue!
