Wheel Bearing - OEM or Aftermarket?

Hey All,

I've got a wheel bearing that's toast. Are people going OEM or aftermarket? If aftermarket what manufacturer and on what site can I find it?

Thanks,

Lew

Lew, as I recall, there was a discussion about this in the latter part of this DIY thread:

Prices and such that were mentioned may be a little dated now, but it's a start.

Thanks!

Looks like Timken is the way to go. Much appreciated.

Cheers,

Lew

Just went with the cheapest thing on Rockauto.com. I'm happy.

Replaced my fronts

I replaced my fronts about 15k ago with cheaper Beck/Arnley which I think are just distributors. They test and buy bulk from manufacturers and rebrand them as theirs. Wanted to get Timkens cause they are apparently the best but my G is hit 200k so really was not trying to spend too much. Overall satisfied with my purchase, only thing was my bearings were fine... the noise was coming from cheap tires

Thanks,

Look in the FSM, I think it's in the ballpark of 120 ft-lb!

Actually, under fax-16, it's 125 nm\92 ft-lb. Am I reading that right?

I don't get it.

If you had seen FAX-16, why did you torque it further?

I just got the fax doc today. I installed the hub assembly yesterday using the torque specs in the diy.

Ahh, I see. I'm going to go ahead and to post an updated comment about the correct torque spec in that thread. I just glanced back at it and the torque info given is pretty bad.

Lew, in the future, you'd do well to bookmark the (online) FSM for your car:

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/G35/Sedan/2008/

(hint: the index for the secions in at the very end of the list, in the "fwd" section)

EDIT: Lew, did you also use the incorrect spec for the front brake caliper torque member (i.e. the caliper mounting frame). It was given as 90-115, and the manual lists it at 98.
