Mildew smell when on "Fresh Air" mode

Hi guys,

I have mildew smell issue on the air vents whenever I put the blower on and in "Fresh Air" mode. After researching for hours, I isolated the issue to the heater assembly. I wonder if anyone here has cleaned the heater assembly or have experience in resolving the bad air smell from HVAC? Any pictures or write-up will help.

Thanks,

Excessive condensation from AC can't evaporate quickly enough in the box when you roll up and shut down, so you get mildew. Try running heat full blast the last 90 seconds before you arrive. Or in summer run it on recirc; then you're not constantly trying to wring humidity out of fresh air. You'll be constantly reducing humidity in the cabin. Less accumulation in the box.

I cleaned my blower motor*, made a large post about it earlier. You need to clean yours most likely. Start with the filter (remove lower glove box).

I replace the in cabin air filter with carbon activated filter every early summer.

I also have been doing turn off AC and keep the fan running a minute before turn off the car. I have been doing that since this summer but still get the bad smell.

I'll clean up the blower like Urban suggested.

Thank you all for your inputs.
