Strange Vibration

2008 G35 - car starts vibrating suddenly while driving on the passenger side. The vibration is excessive. Then, as suddenly as it started, it stops. This happens on a random basis. Any idea any one? Changed the front tires and had a four wheel alignment done recently. Could it be related? I do not thing it could be the wheel bearing as it is not continuous. Could it be related to the anti-lock braking system? Othewrwise car operates normally though a brake check is overdue and perhaps I need to change the brake pads.

Any ideas anyone? Any help much appreciated. An email message at mahendra26@gmail.com would be helpful.

Thanks very much.

Mahendra

It would really help if you provided as much detail about the conditions where this vibration happens as possible.

Is it at all, or just certain, speeds?
Is it while accelerating, cruising, coasting, or braking?
Will it always do it on the same road under the same conditions?
Do you know what brake judder feels like?
Has your car been in an accident?
Do you have stock wheels?
Are you using wheel spacers?
etc?
etc?

Next time it starts pull over and feel your wheels to see if you can find one that is hot. I have 138k miles and have replaced 3 rear calipers that seize- and I know when one is going bad because the car vibrates as you describe and I get a low pitch "humming" sound.

Dear tnduc,

Thanks very much for your reply. I did a brake job on all for wheels. The right rear wheel brake piston was siezed. It was not easy to pull it out and I had to use force to do it. Cleaned up the gunk on it using oil and 1500 grit emery paper. This is a small scratch on it. Reassembled it with new seals from O'Reillys. All pads renewed although pads were good on all wheels (about 4-5 mm left on all pads), and the car is driving well. I have to keep an eye out for any leaks on rear right wheel due to the small scratch on the piston. If leaking, I will have to find a new piston or change the caliper.
