2005 G35x vs 2007 G35x... Worth the upgrade?

Hey guys,

I've had my 2005 g35x for a little over a year now, and it's been great, apart from the terrible fuel economy. I've added a remote starter and GROM Bluetooth adapter and I currently have no problems with it. It's currently sitting on 250000KM (150000 mi) and I've been thinking about upgrading.

I bought my 2005 for ~$5K, and I recently saw a 2007 G35x for sale for around ~$5500 with 260000KM (160000 mi) and I'm wondering if it's a worthwhile upgrade?

What do you guys think? Does it sound like a good idea?

i just hit 170k on my 07 g35x and i personally think it is still got a lot more to go. the body and interior alone i think is worth the upgrade. andif u can keep it clean and tidy, it doesnt even look like it is a 10 yr old car naah mean:

Save some money and upgrade to the 2010+ G37x (one with the face lift) then you won't have any regrets.

Besides that I love my 2007 G35x. It looks way better than the first gen g35 sedans IMO.

I would also recommend saving for a 2010+ G37 or a q50 hehe.

Mechanically, I don't think it's worth the upgrade. Appearance and interior sure, but I will always love the v35 sedan.

I wouldn't risk it buddy.. unless the car has every single service record. I wouldn't mess with it.. too many miles without knowing how well the car was kept up.

Well mechanically you get the VQ35HR which is a fairly large upgrade, plus whatever other components were improved. Have to agree the first gen coupe looks much better than the sedan though.

I think it comes down to that particular car and how much it will cost you to jump over.

I can't believe people are now replying to this thread that I posted in February! Crazy!

Still, I am in the process of selling my 2005 G35x and buying a 2007 g35x. Why? Here's my reasoning:

- 2005 burns oil quite heavily, it's not a major problem, but it is an added expense that's far too much money to ultimately fix. This problem was solved in the 2007 (As far as I know)

- 2005 and 2007 are the exact same cost on insurance for me, whereas the 2008-2013 are another $70 a month. I don't know why this is the case, but I can put that money towards gas or mods or something else and then properly save up for a Q50, which is a bit out of my range right now.

- There are minor differences between the 2007 G's and the 2010+ G's, off the top of my head I remember the differences being the front fascia and fog lights, ***** instead of buttons, different instrument cluster and some different interior trim materials. I don't think that's enough for me to spend more money up front and more money on insurance IMO.

I'm hoping to sell my 2005 with 250K for a realistic $4000 CAD and buy a 2007 with 160KM for $6500 CAD. I think that's a pretty good upgrade and a pretty good deal, but chime in and let me know!

The differences between the '07 G35 and the 2008 coupe / 2009 sedan were mostly the engine, they switched to the VQ37VHR which was a much better motor, the facelift happened for the 2010 model year.

I didn't know the VQ37HR was much better than the VQ35HR. Most people say it's almost a wash, since the the 2009's we're heavier.

To the OP, if you can get a 07 G35x for $6500 go for it. When I was looking for one earlier this year they were in the $10-$11K range with that mileage.

From a performance standpoint (stock) there wasn't a huge difference but reliability, longevity the VQ37VHR was a much better motor overall, transmissions were better (both M/T and auto) and the facelifted ones looked better as well :P

Was it though? I see a lot of G35s for sale with really high KMs and they're still going strong, and I thought that people didn't like the 7 speeds because they constantly hunt for gears?

I mean, I'm pretty sure that the Nissan engineers designed the VQ37 to be better than the VQ35, but if you had the option of getting a G37 with 200K vs a G35 with 150K, which one would you get?

Well I own an '06 coupe 6MT because it's my dream car so I might be a little biased When in doubt listen to your heart, if you still can't decide then it means you need to WAIT until you can make that decision.

Well I think the 37 had to be made stronger out of necessity, so they could cope with the increased loads and stresses in the same size block. Higher compression, more complexity and increased HP, so due to that change it needed to be made stronger, however the 35 by all accounts seems to be up to the task and strong enough to do the job its made for.

Those are definitely some words of wisdom, but at the same time there is the paradox of choice! The more options you have, the less happy you are when you pick one, which is super hard when there are so many great cars! :P

Still, I love my G, and I've been looking to upgrade ever since February, just because the new generation seems better overall. I've test driven probably 20 different G's, but it's always been something; sketchy sellers, paperwork, hidden damage, too many KMs, and even just a bad vibe.

I'm planning to buy one this weekend though, it's a 2007 with 160K for $6K CAD. If anyone finds me a better deal let me know!

Got a link for that? I thought the 35 and 37 was basically a wash when it comes to mileage? Also my 35HR burns zero oil after 4500 miles.
