Compressor change help!!

well had my compressor diagnosed today. Sure enough I need to replace it.

Are there any step by steps for a 2008 G35 on how to do this?

Along with all the capacities and such?

I can have the shop take out the freon. But I'd like to do the rest myself.

Yeah you can but the system still needs to be charged with nitrogen and checked for leaks then vacuum pumped down to remove any moisture.

Make sure to REPLACE any o-rings that are loosened, they're not rubber either, mostly urethane but do a little research.

You might save a little by doing the compressor swap yourself but you won't have any warranty from whoever does the purge/charge.

I lucked out and my younger brother owns an HVAC shop in Vancouver and he's incredibly talented as both a tech and a mechanic and carries licensing (and equipment) for auto as well as his commercial/industrial/residential stuff, no idea how much it would cost for the repair.

The system has been electronically checked and checked for leaks. It has been determined that the compressor is, in fact, the issue.

Aside from draining and filling the freon which a pro will do. I'd really like to find a play by play on compressor removal/install.

Google for the factory service manual, that's the best we can do.

Yeah I mean AFTER the compressor is swapped it will need to be leak tested with nitrogen again.

Are you certain it is the compressor. I had mine break in November, and my backyard mechanic diagnosed it as the compressor pulley (the spinning disk of the compressor connected one of the drive belts). They say most of the time the compressor pulley (the bearings inside it) goes out before the actual compressor does. No need to break into the refrigeration system if the compressor is good and only the pulley is bad. Dealer wanted $2000. I got a pulley off ebay for $140 here:

You will need a compressor clutch pulley tool ($13) to keep the pulley from spinning when taking off the bolt. It is here:

Look at the FSM for details of how to loosen belt. You may have to remove radiator fan, reservoir tank, and air filter for access. You will also need a breaker bar for the belt tensioner.

General DIY videos are here:

Update on my previous post. Although I bought a replacement compressor clutch in November, I tried to install it this morning. Here are my lessons learned. It did not work out for me. The second snap ring that holds the magnet could not be taken out. The snap ring pliers kept slipping off, and it is very hard to see both holes for inserting the plier prongs (even with a mirror). Bottomline is that I suggest taking it to a professional shop. Here is what's need to based on my experience: 1) First remove driver side air filter housing, 2) then remove coolant reservoir. Then unplug center harness and control module harness from radiator fan. Remove the top two bolts holding the fan. The key is that the fan needs to be removed from the bottom. You should now have enough space to use a breaker bar to loosen the drive belt and to remove the compressor.
